DJ Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk recently performed for one of their regular nights in Ibiza, Cream @ Amnesia on Thursday 4th August 2003. We took the time to pay a visit to possibly one of the best nights on the island and take some pictures and record some video clips to let our viewers know what they are missing out on.

THE CLUB
Amnesia is one of the biggest clubs on the island of Ibiza and Cream on Thursdays is probabaly one of the best nites along with Manumission etc. A ticket for the night costs 41Euros which included free transportation from San Antonion Bay (Bus). These leave from midnight and then every 30 mins.
We arrived at the club at aproximately 1am and it was allready starting to fill up (Opens @ midnight). There are two huge rooms, one being the main room of course and the other the chillout / house room. However the main room was the focus of the night as two trance legends were about to play in there!
The layout of the main room was a bit different than most clubs I had been to. The DJ Booth was on a high flatform overlooking the main dance floor. At the back of the booth was a wall of amps and audio equipment. The audio level indicators could be seen from the dancefloor which was pretty cool. They were obviously placed there for show. At the top of the wall of amps was a mirror angled so that the crowd on the dance floor could see the turntables and what the DJ was doin. This all combined with the a big levell meter on front of the highered booth were all very effective (See pics below). There was a kind of balcany which spanned throughout both rooms which was on the same level as the DJ booth but this was for VIP's only so they had the best view of the fantastic dancers that danced all night along the side of the balcony overlooking the thousands of clubbers..
THE DJ's:
At about 1:20 the crowds applaused as DJ Tiesto was spotted on the DJ booth and to everyones surprises started roughly 40 mins earlier than expected. He started off playing a few well known easy going tracks such as 'Andain - Summer's Calling (Josh Gabriel Mix)' as featured on his fantastic 'In Search Of Sunrise 3 Album'. Slowly building up his set as the club soon became packed out. After about an hour of dancing round some of the podiums we made our way to the middle of the dance floor as targets for the famous dry ice cannon. Dry ice cannon? i hear you cry.. Yes! its basically a machine that basically fires extreme amounts of fine powdered dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide) onto the centre of the dance floor... like a smoke machine but it was a mist of ice. It was quite often fired as big tunes kicked off and OMG it is one hell of an experience. There would be a wonderful breakdown in the middle of one of the many tunes he played... it would start building up... the whole dance floor full of hundreded of people would be ready to explode as the tune climaxes... and just as it does.. WHOOOOOOSHHHHHHH!!!! the sensation of the extremely cold dry ice smoke smoke rushing down on you as you throw your hands up in the air to an extrememly powerful tune is extremely overwelming!!! Its an experience that you will never forget! Luckily we managed to take some pics and vids of it in action so you can see for yourselves! (see pics / vids below).
Tiesto played an absolutely fantastic 2HR 40min set with many memorable moments including when he played the breakbeat remix of Airwave 2003 and the whole crowd was going mental... classic tunes including his own 'Urban Train', what is rumoured to be his own new remix of the classic trance anthem 'William Orbit - Adagio For Strings' which was luckily captured on one of the video clips below and not forgetting 'Tiesto - Traffic' which the crowd was absolutely loving every single second of.
Paul van Dyk appeared on the turntables at 04:00, right on schedule. He played an extremely versatile and well structured set with a wide variety of trance including classic tunes such as 'On the Run'. As 6am approaches, I danced more and more knowing that it was soon to end... but guess what... 6am passed and he carried on playing... he played until they would not let him play no more... till 7am to be exact. Paul Van Dyk carried on stunning the crowds and playing absolutely fantastic tunes including is own new 'A Time To Live'. Dancing to that on a podium with PVD just above and to the front of me was a very magical moment and will never be forgotten.
This has to go down as one of the best nights out ever experienced. With Tiesto playing from 1.20am till 4am then PVD playing from 4am till 7am it was absolutely superb. These fantastic DJ's combined with the gorgeous dancers, the fantastic venue and the Dry Ice Cannon and not forgetting the huge crowd of people that turned up combined together to help create a most memorable experience.
