© Club LUK, EkaterinurgUnforgettable night in Ekaterinburg, Russia

This is my first party report. As you maybe understand, there are not much parties in our country where you can listen to good music. In Russia, better to say in my region and in my city there is only one real quality full club where you can find techno, Deep house, dub, lounge and almost everything what is being released on vinyl. Usually I do not visit clubs more than two times a month, but there was a big University celebration and I could not miss this event. The club is called "LUK". It needs explanation and will try to depict it as better: the most passing one is the marine word "Hatch". What does it mean - you are walking down the street and fall into it, there is no chance to get out of the club until morning, because it's a great place to stay.
And now I will tell you about the party itself. We started @ 23.00 as usual and finished @ 06.00 in the morning, the main reason - it was the Thursday-Friday night and we all had to study in the morning. Weird, isn't it? ;)
First DJ was Vadim Khanin (I ill write all names in Russian where required, I have also been 2 the turntables the whole night long and still keep the overall impression). He is only 17 and finishing the school this year. I haven't met such good DJs since I have left Germany last summer. He is playing Deep house, not my favourite style, but... it rocks! Vadim should be called the "Pitching Master" - he is making an absolutely ideal work while bringing vinyls together. He will teach me when I will give up writing for i:Vibes and will play every night @ LUK. There was also a relative big amount of Russian productions so I can say that our makes could write this music. But we are still not composing real trance! Mr. Khanin was interrupted a few times because of speeches and congratulations. I will try to make a rip of his next live set for you all to listen, it's very interesting. The most exiting thing he told me: "Being a DJ is good - you get money for the work you like to do and for the music you like to listen too. But being a DJ is not alright if you are seeking for a serious profession." I definitely agree with him, but next time when we will have crashes in any area here in Russia we will always have another abilities reserved ;) Vadim's photo is attached to the article.
DJ Khanin finished his set @ about 01:30 and DJ GlaZZ took the mixer. This was a double set (I also have made some cool vinyl scratches etc) and it was going on up to the end. First GlaZZ played almost CDs but then started to touch the Technics (I mean the turntables :). GlaZZ is not playing something particular, I could describe it as "the sound of people's joy", it is not necessary to take the most popular track out, the DJ is controlling the situation and the crowd is moving. "Everyone should be satisfied", - he says. And all club residents try to change styles from time to time 2 night (it was a very funny moment when he changed from Deep house into drum'n'bass - risky but working, they on the dance floor have caught it!). Another good idea was when westarted to mix "Rockafeller Skank" and "Praise You" by Fatboy Slim. Two persons @ the turntables turn them in different directions and... we could not decide that moment what are we playing at all and who should choose the next track. But finally we decided to give 'em a break and played Underworld's track "Born Slippy". I was very surprised - people started to scream and later in the morning they told me "Thank you for playing it!". wonderful, they know what a good trance tune is!
About the trance music - I have seen the "You Can't Stop Us" by Love Committee and "Ich Will" remix by Paul van Dyk. At about 04 in the morning the girl called DJ Loona came up to us and asked to play her favourite track "Batucada" by Spiller. Actually GlaZZ and me were already a little tired and we just went to sit aside and let Loona play it by herself. There was only one trouble/unpleasantness this night - people had to study (and me too!) and started to leave the club rather early. but there are also important things except clubbing, I understand them.
Overall impression: awesome. Everyone who is coming to Ekaterinburg should visit LUK, no doubt. Only in this case you will get a full impression of our club life here and see the difference between us and Europe/United States.
I want to thank Denis Plotnikov, the LUK president for giving us the opportunity to spend this night in this place (our University just paid for the whole service there :). I hope to write much more about our events/parties/etc. This weekend DJ Alex Dean (Souldoubt) from London is coming to our city and will play a live set @ the club called... can u tell me the name?;) I am waiting for your feedback all the way.
