Volume 1 appears to take on the theme as the funkier disc out of the 5 volumes. The track Judy Cheeks - Reach has a very distinctive bassline, and if you are not fond of the vocals like I am, then there is a dub on the second disc for you. Volume 2 contains Perpetual Motion - Keep On Dancin' (Let's Go) (Andy Manston's Retro Remix), a track I am sure you won't have forgotten in a hurry. I still remember the days of this being hammered by Judge Jules. The Scott Mac vs. DJ Cams Remix is a much harder interpretation of the original, with a typical Scott Mac sound. Volume 2 offers a much more chilled version of the track Transformer 2 - Just Can't Get Enough, as well as a much harder version. It is the Infusion Remix that is more chilled with a heavy but relaxed bassline, and is quite slow paced. The Cosmicman Dark Remix, the harder version, is much more energetic and as the title of the remix suggests, much "darker."
Volume 3 is personally my favourite volume. The new Ronski Speed Remix of the legendary track Binary Finary keeps the originality of the original, but adds an updated 2003 feel to it. I can't understand why they didn't call the track 2003 though, keeping to the theme that all previous remixes have stuck to. As for Veracocha - Carte Blanche (Ronald Van Geldern Remix), it in no way compares to the original mix, arguably one of the greatest tracks of all time, but with a lack of remixes of this track back a few years ago, it's certainly nice to hear a new interpretation of it. Out of all the tracks that have been updated, my personal favourite is BBE - Seven Days And One Week (Ferry Corsten Remix). Ferry Corsten has done a superb job of making an already amazing track even better. The new remix is very high paced and quite energetic.
Volume 4 contains a 2003 remix by Hemstock & Jennings of Watergate - Heart of Asia. It keeps the melody of the original, and now has a much more "oriental" feel about it. Combined with Hemstock & Jennings synths and bassline, the remix is very effective. Lange - I Believe (Lange 2003 Remix) is a track definitely worthy of a mention. Not only has the track itself been updated, but much of the vocals have been removed, which is definitely a good thing. I was never a fan of the vocals, and really believed they diverted attention away from the melody. Radio 1 earlier this year set a competition to remix Marc Et Claude - La. Anyone could download the samples, and then whatever happened next was in the hands of the competitor. The winner of the Radio 1 Dance Anthems Competition was Corderoy, with a very unique remix, worthy of a release on the Positiva Remixed EP.
Volume 5 contains 2 remixes of Spiller - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) both by Ernest St. Laurent. The first on the disc is labelled Rosetrack while the second is called the Spicy Blackbird Remix. Both are very similar sounding, but as the title suggests of the Spicy Blackbird is a bit more "spicier" and a bit more "dancier." Of course the famous "Why does it feel so good?" vocal has been kept. BBE - Seven Days And One Week (Tomcraft Remix) is yet another great track that Tomcraft can claim credit for. The beginning of the track is very break beat, and when the track does kick in, it's very surprising how hard the track actually is.
Conclusion:
The Positiva Remixed EP is to be released on October 20th. There is such a huge variety of tracks spread over 5 packs, which means that there really is a little something for everyone!
