It’s been spun all over the holiday islands, the BBC have used it to promote their coverage of the Reading Festival and every house DJ on the planet has had it near the front of their record box for months. So it may come as a bit of a surprise that “Let the sun shine” is only now getting a full release. And who brings us the happiest tune of the summer? It’s the lovely boys and girls at Data Records and let’s be honest if anyone knows a hit it's them.
Despite contributing remixes to the likes of Jamiroquai, Bel Amour and Robbie Rivera, Milk & Sugar’s last chart hit was over a year ago with the happy as ya like remake of “love is in the air”. Partly due to its cheesiness it didn’t perform too well in the clubs and only made a little dent in the top 40. This time around Mike “Milk” Kronenberger (Doesn’t he make larger?) and Steve “Sugar” Harning have brought in the talents of Lizzy Pattinson (Her from Aurora) to add some cheeky vocals to their Latin beats and soaring gospel–esque chorus. The result is a sun drenched piece of Latin house which could even put a smile on Sadam Hussain’s ugly mug.
This track has the right mix of ingredients to be a huge hit, so why they have but four other mixes on the CD is a little puzzling. The vocal club mix does exactly what it says on the tin while the Terrace Club mix removes Lizzy’s vocals (Why?) in favour of some enhanced snares and an extended instrumental; which is like getting a shot of Tequila with out the salt and lime, sure it’s a good enough drink but where is the fun? The Wack Side Tweaker remix is a lot beefier but takes a good three minutes to release the soaring vocals, sure it isn’t as summery as the original or Terrace mix but it does toughen up the track and offer itself to those who might find the original a little too girly. My pick of the remixes has to be the T&F Vs Moltosugo remake. Piano chords twined with I can only describe as electro pan pipes provide the opening to a drum loop before the soaring strings and vocals take effect. The result is a lot more laid back, sunset style mix which is the only remix that can hold it’s own against the original.
Conclusion:
If this was released a few months back it would have been amazingly huge! Now it’s just gonna be massive!
