The Inc’s “You’re a superstar” sold 200,000 copies, which at the last count makes it the third best selling dance single this year (Mr Sammy can lay claim to the number one spot). Quite a feet to beat you would think, well that hasn’t stopped Chris Sheppard (the Canadian writer, producer and radio jock behind the Inc) from having another go.
“Broken bones” is poppy trance house crossover much like “Superstar” with Canadian Simone Denny takes vocal duties this time around. Simone has been singing for years and was once a singer for small Canadian group BKS. Over time Simone has developed quite a range, this is shown though the track. as she stretches her voice sounding rough and energetic while also maintaining a level of femininity and more than anything, amazingly determined and forceful.
Remix duties are handled by Pez Tellett, LMC and the Friday Night Posse. Each remix takes a slightly harder slant on the original although the mix worthy of being described as “hard” would be from the Friday Night Posse, as they remove a large segment of the vocals and speed up the base while adding hardcore synthesisers up to the breakdown which brings back the vocal as it aims to push the beat higher.
This might not have the instant appeal of “Superstar” but the sing-back-ability of Simone’s vocals means it is a definite grower.
If you were wondering why The Inc decided to call their latest tune “Broken bones,” it was because Chris decided to jump out of a window in to a swimming pool at an industry party. The window he chose happened to be four floors up and when he hit the water he broke both his legs. OUCH! While in the hospital he started writing and broken bones happened to be quite heavy on his mind. Let that be a lesson to ya Chris.
