George Acosta has been fueling the North American trance scene with some of the EUropean influences which many of us love, with euphoric and dynamic vibes, his sound has been reflected in many of his past DJ sets and compilations, with this one being no exception.
Giving us an uplifting start with two Armin van Buuren productions; Prooemium and Precious from his latest album 76, George brings us across to some of the finer talents from the UK and Holland with his stream of European chart toppers such as Rapid Eye's Stealing Beauty which has all the signs of a top track within.
As much as I like Paul van Dyk as a DJ and artist, I found his latest single Time of Our Lives with Vega 4 doing the vocal rounds to be quite disappointing, and I definitely disagreed with George Acosta's choice of selecting this.
However, he pushes things back on track with beautiful mixes of Rusch & Murray's Epic and the a stream of European trance massives like Push Through with its awesome classical balearic touch and my personal favourite earlier this year from Darren Tate & Jono Grant in the form of Let the Light Shine In with its simply beautiful vocals. I can just picture everytime this track being dropped at an indoor 5,000 capacity event, the crowd erupting in a feverish frenzy at about the 4 minute mark.
The boys from England such as Darren Tate, Mike Koglin, Stuart Lange and Andy Perring (Pulser) have been doing their thing this year, and the next two selections are flawlessly encountered in a dynamic build encompassing superb breaks, uplifting melodies and all with the cheesiness.
Closing things off with 2 tracks in true Acosta style fit for any trance set.
Disc 2
Like many George Acosta compilations, the 2nd disc often comes in on the harder side of things.
Rummaging through some of the old-school style of deeper and harder style, Superbitch comes in as slightly cheesy, but sets the atmosphere for the upcoming two masterful tracks in the form of Atmosphere and Pure Thrust (Nu Nrg Mix).
Driving, pummeling and pushing you to a subtle trip, these dark melodic trancers really do it for me; memories of some of the finest events I've ever been to come into mind with these tracks.
Moving even further into the driving trance arena are resident hardcore trance fanatics Dave 202 & Phil Green, Mass in Orbit and Voodoo & Serano in a few of the upcoming tracks which in my opinion represents the sound which Acosta is really into.
Particular highlights include Mass in Orbit's Power is your Mind and Soulmate's Moment of Silence which build with an outright fieryness.
Zed-X's Storm has been one of those tracks which never clicked in my eardrums since it's release and I feel the same way here as it comes through as one of those repetitive tracks which started coming forth after the trance boom of the late 90s.
Acosta pushes the limit with the upcoming two penultimate tracks and give us a bit of a soundbud hammering with some intense beats and melodies before coming to an explosive end with Talla's superb Innocence.
Innocence has been one of those tracks I can put the needle back to the beginning time and time again with its underworld tinged addictive vocals and Talla's classic sound which I have followed for the past few years.
Conclusion:
Arguably George's best CD compilation to date with a clear focus of some of the more mainstream European influences in play here. Highlights include the middle portion of disc 1 which really tore holes in my sneakers and his mixing just doesn't fail him here.
Great album 8/10
