IIO, you think, well 'Rapture' anyone? Yes indeed, this is the newest from the hugely successfull act IIO. For those of you who liked Rapture, and I presume that I can safely say many of you, then you should also be very keen to hear this latest quality offering. Read On...
IIO - Smooth
01 - Smooth (Original Radio Edit) -- 03:52 02 - Smooth (Blackwatch Radio Edit) -- 03:50 03 - Smooth (Pig & Dan Radio Edit) -- 03:51 04 - Smooth (Original Extended) -- 08:07 05 - Smooth (Pig & Dan Club Remix) -- 07:15
Total Time 26:55 min
01 - Smooth (Original Radio Edit) Typical!... Got a taste of fame and cash so they automatically include a radio edit on the initial release. Well putting that aside, we must try to keep our heads clear of the commercialism factors of the release and focus our attension upon the overall quality of the track in its true right. Im not going to describe the radio edit as im sure if you read my description of the Original Mix then you will ultimitly figure out what this sounds like.
02 - Smooth (Blackwatch Radio Edit) This begins off like its going to be a live performance with only guitars and the vocals, although then the percussions and kick arrives and creates a feeling of some faith for the mix. Although this is more 'pop' than anything else, and some people would almost go as far as calling it 'beatstyle'. I dont like this mix at all, nothing in there that justifies it compared with the other mixes.
03 - Smooth (Pig & Dan Radio Edit) If I was a radio DJ then this is without doubt the mix I would surely play!... This is very reminiscent of the original release 'Rapture' and I believe that this is the mix that we will be hearing more often than not. Its got a groovy bassline and nice kicks and percussions, with the sublime vocals overlapping at just the right places and changes also at the correct places. The best radio edit out of them all.
04 - Smooth (Original Extended) This mix along with the 'Pig & Dan Club Mix' have to be labelled my favourite mixes of this release. This track begins with nice percussions and some groovy sounds which will make you and I can forsee it making your girlfriend and all the girls on the floor shake their booties' all around. A nice long intro so perfect for mixing with and the vocals kick in just after 1/4 of the way through the track. Once again, with this track the riff which is subtle to say the least is as good as 'Rapture'. In my opinion this release should go very big! Perhaps not as big as 'Rapture' but it has got a lot of potential.
05 - Smooth (Pig & Dan Club Remix) This version has a less dirty feel on it, although is equally as good as the Original, in its own way. The BPM is also a little higher and therefore may be better for the more commercial clubs. The vocals come in at around the same time as the original mix and the riff is almost excatly the same. If I were to play this track every week then I would probably use both these mixes, using a different one each week. This mix is more clear and easy to listen to.
Conclusion:
Overall a great release, its just a pitty about all the silly radio edits. I guess they had to include them after the success of 'Rapture'. It looks as if they plan to take this release along a similar path to 'Rapture' I wish them luck! It has potential.
