A new duo called Brother's Bud release this old skool sounding track. After being stuck in the boxes of the Plump DJ's, Soul of Man and Kid Kenobi. Finger Lickin' decided to release it. Read on for the full review.
Z2 is Andy Bury and Rich Mowatt (aka Solar Stone) but what their input into this record was, is truly a mystery and Brothers Bud (Dom and Angus) is a duo from Birmingham. Put Brothers Bud into a studio, you have a quality record. This originally was released on test pressing in the spring of 2003 and this record found its way into the record boxes of soul of man, the plump dj’s and many other breakbeat deejays. So Fingerlickin decided to release this bad boy for the public.
Side A is the original mix of Herbgrinder and this song totally rocks. You got a funky old school sounding sample as vocal with sirens in the background. You have a nice funky groove and add the drums and breaks and you have a funky record. Should fit into deejays trying to fit more diverse records into their sets. It is a must buy for the breakbeat deejays out there.
Side B is the Drumattic Twins Remix of Herbgrinder and this is a darker take of the original. The Drumattic Twins are Nick Slater and Kevin Lancaster who have been making quality tracks for years. The Drumattic Twins seem to go for using the vocal sample more than the original mix and to add tougher drums. They even add scratching into parts of the track. A darker mix that breakbeat addicts are sure to love.
Conclusion:
Verdict – Well worth your time and effort, if you like darker breakbeat then the B side is well worth it. Another quality release from Fingerlickin 8/10
