Its here. Finally, Ozone - Rock has landed and what a landing it is!
Ozone - Rock is a trance rework of that wonderfully powerful and moving orchestral theme used in the film The Rock. Often, remakes of well known themes can produce sub-standard results and end in disappointment. Not here, not a trace.
There are 3 mixes of Rock - the Original, an Inzite remix and another remix by Three Drives. Let us begin...
:: Ozone - Rock :: First Second Records :: FIS006
A1: Original Mix After a short mellow section to start with, Rock lets you know it means business by introducing a solid beat and bass which create a good, thick sound. Confident from the outset, it only gets better. An instrument teases a partial melody to you - its quite faint but it sounds like an Oboe. As you listen, you notice the sound changing from this lovely wind instrument - into a superb, uplifting synth! This acts as a kind of build up, which then subsides into silence and a breakdown. Heres where we're treated with the actual theme itself - in a grand orchestral format, with lashings of additional trance. Several types of string, bass and a very subtle synth create this part of the track. It grows slowly, filling up with more and more sound and bringing in more synths. It peaks with a kick fest, a break, then the full on tune explodes in all its glory. This is trance at its finest and it just defies explanation. A quietened down rest period comes up after this, but it soon starts to build up again to let loose a final passage of the main melody. All great tunes must come to an end, though, and after this final main section, it winds itself down to a close. This is one of the best trance moments of the year.
B1: Inzite Remix The remix by Inzite is an excellent variation of the Original. Its filled with spacey sound effects, has a punchier beat and a much more driving bassline. This track is pure synth - no orchestra to be found here, just a tonne of reverb and hands in the air trance action. The breakdown is similar to the Original in that it introduces the full melody, but it uses a thick, thick, super-trance synth. While the Original made you feel it in your body, the Inzite Remix will have you reaching out for it from way above you. Superb!
B2: Three Drives Remix The Three Drives Remix is a lot more restrained than the first two mixes. It doesn't introduce the actual theme from The Rock until about halfway through and before that, it introduces its own little hook. The synth used for the melody, once it is introduced, is quite unique. It sounds like a combination of two or more, giving a slight chorus effect at times. This remix only has one go at a main section until it begins its wind down and eventual end.
The Original and the Inzite mixes steal the show here, with the Original coming out just a little bit ahead. They are a pair of absolutely awesome tracks - I urge you to listen to them!
Conclusion:
This is a massive release. I have been waiting for this for some time now and its been a worthwhile wait. The Original and Inzite mixes are out of this world and hopefully will be floating around in clubland for some time to come. Enjoy.
