Having last released "Baileys" on Five AM records, Cern presents another Five AM release titled "The Message". Playlisted by the likes of Tiesto, Ferry Corsten and Paul Van Dyk, this is trance and its massive...
I was looking forward to hearing this track since I heard the big names have got hold of it and are giving it good support. I like hearing fresh new trance and when I put this record on, my hopes were met! The Message is a wonderful piece and it comes in two mixes - a Northern Mix and a Southern Mix - both of which are very similar.
:: Cern - The Message :: Five AM LTD Promo :: FAM022
A: Northern Mix This starts with a single but very meaty beat which has a deep echo beneath it to provide more body and power. A bassline to keep things moving is introduced shortly, along with a higher pitched instrument that rolls along on top of the bassline. A dreamy uplifting synth is also introduced, but this is held back quietly in the background so as to only provide a taster for things to come. Next follows the only breakdown in this track, which therefore is quite extended. It consists of a relatively ambient section to begin with and after a short while it introduces the synth in all of its glory, demonstrating this tunes wonderful melody and building up and up to a climax. There is a vocal in the style of a radio transmission which is effectively used to help bring you out of the breakdown and into the main body of the track. This progresses further later on when a second synth is introduced alongside the first, playing a different melody, creating a wonderful harmony and giving the track a really nice feel-good factor. Once this has peaked, the track winds down by dropping the synths, then the bassline, then the beat itself to finish with a few bars of percussion.
AA: Southern Mix The Southern Mix is very, very similar to the Northern Mix, with only a few subtle differences. Firstly, it is very slightly (and I mean very slightly) slower. The high pitched instrument is left out of this mix, and the synth which is brought in is a lot more noticeable. Finally, the ambient section in the breakdown is about half as long as in the Northern Mix and you're treated to more synth build up instead.
The Message is another step in the right direction for Cern and Five AM records - its a piece of quality trance which I'm sure is going to become very popular!
Conclusion:
All in all, The Message is a wonderful track with all the right ingredients - a strong kick, a good breakdown, an awesome synth and a dreamy melody. Its a little bit of a shame that the two mixes are so similar but thats a minor issue which wont stand in the way of this track gaining the popularity it so rightly deserves!
