Italian club guru Benny Benassi releases his latest offering. An artist album featuring his trademark sound combined with filtered bass, vocal distortion and mesmerizing melodies.

The latest album from Benny Benassi is an interesting offering of 14 tracks, featuring his trademark vocals and sound in an altogether distinct package in the form of Hypnotica.

1. Satisfaction
2. Able to Love
3. No Matter What You Do
4. Let It Be
5. Love is Gonna Save Us
6. Inside of Me
7. I Wanna Touch Your Soul
8. I'm Sorry
9. Time
10. Put Your Hands Up
11. Get Loose
12. Change Style
13. I Love My Sex
14. Don't Touch Too Much

Benny Benassi has been a big name in clubland of late and with his numbers appearing on numerous compilations - not to mention some that I have reviewed in recent weeks, he is a man not to be overlooked.

With Satisfaction coming through as a Mario Piu type Communication production of the late 90s, once you hear it you either love it or you hate it. For me, it's quite a funky track, but I cannot stand the distorted vocals and the reminiscent Communication style plundering of my speakers throughout the 5 odd minutes - however, this is bound to be quite a club topper.

Following on in similar fashion is an electro glide through Able to Love in a mesmerizing, bass-heavy club opener, and from this track and the following No Matter What You Do it seems obvious that Benny has a thing for distorted female vocals. The melody in track 3 is chillingly soft, and although the vocals don't really do it for me, No Matter What You do was quite an addictive track.

Hitting a change in tone, Let It Be is a rather downtempo, almost chilled electro techno production; great for those mid-morning drives along Lakeshore Boulevard. I guess that this was a bit of a transitionary track as we get into a bit more tech-heavy dance material in the form of Love is Gonna Save Us which verges on house-trance, with its rhythmic bursts and quite a surprisingly fiery breakdown early in at about 2 minutes. Still the trademark vocals stand, and if this one had a dub version, it would definitely be a dance floor winner.

Inside of Me is what I would consider as a cross between an 80s Roland synth and a line out of "Aliens" but a bit odd for my liking. Moving along...

Adding a few more housey rhythms I Wanna Touch Your Soul is a similar affair to Inside of Me and adds a mesmerizing bassline to it. Slightly better than the last, but I'm still not grabbing it..

Almost touching on the lines of D n'B, I'm Sorry is a cool afterhours downtempo track which fizzes of The End or old-school Fabric in London and adds a bit of the Benny Benassi touch to it. Cool, filtered, hypnotic and downtempo all in one, combined with vocals which make me spill a bit of a smile for no particular reason..

Starting off with a chunky whacked up bassline, Time just about grabs my attention for a full listen and is subtle yet fluent in terms of production.

Put Your Hands Up is another track I like on this album, purely because the vocals go so well with the melody in an altogether funky, dubby, dance floor happy electro monster which will get anyone moving on the floor. Similarly following suit is Get Loose which puts us deeper into club territory without going all dark on us.

Finishing off Benny's single productions with a cool progressive touch is Change Style, a track which would be fit for Sasha or Junkie XL.

Adding to it with some additional action from the Benassi Brothers, tracks 13 and 14 close what I would deem as one of the more interesting dance CDs i have come across in recent times. Also, the final track comes through with the first encounter to non-distorted vocals throughout the entire album, allowing for a refreshing finish to a rather different album..

Released now through Ultra Records.

Conclusion:
Although I will admit that some of the tracks didn't really grab me, the title Hypnotica definitely is applicable to this album. Saying that, there were a couple of stand out tracks which I thoroughly enjoyed even though there were a few tracks in the middle which tested my patience in skipping the track completely.

However, as far as refreshing material goes, this goes beyond conventional refreshingness and in my opinion, be spot on as far as club music goes and I definitely look forward to what Benny has to offer next. 6/10 from me.
