Soul Cry is a collaboration between the Swiss DJ Tatana, and Mystery - and what a collaboration it is! This vinyl holds 3 mixes of this fantastic new tune!
DJ Tatana has a few previous releases on the Sirup label - "Words" and "Moments". Tatana & Mystery have gone all out on this one and moved away from the standard club trance to produce the powerful epic uplifting trance that is "Soul Cry".
My apologies though, this promo copy has no indication of mix names, so I will refer to the tracks simply as A1, B1 and B2 mixes.

A1: A1 Mix (Sam Sharp Remix (14/01/2004)) After a short percussive intro, a very electronic sounding bassline and kick are developed into something deeper and stronger which acts to pick up the pace and really helps to get things moving. There are periodic stabs of a massive, massive reverberated synth which are broken up by what sounds like a very very heavily vocoded vocal sample - no words are audible, it just sounds like its trying to be a voice. Next the mood really changes as there is an orchestral string breakdown - things are slowed down to a whoosh and a silence followed by the awesome stabbing synth beginning to unleash the full melody. When the tune drops, it holds immense power and feeling, with a melody long enough to keep you interested by avoiding any obvious repetition. After a nice section of the stabbing synth driven melody, they revert to being periodic, then are removed completely before the track finishes its wind down.
B1: B1 Mix (The Mystery Remix (14/01/2004)) The B1 Mix starts a lot quicker and has a much snappier and more lively bassline. This is quickly accompanied by a more subdued version of that stabbing synth, repeating the same note over and over. Then you're dropped straight into a short breakdown with an orchestral section which is quickly transformed into an epic synthed string build up and then jumps into the main body of the track. This is really beautiful stuff - the melody played out by epic, heavily reverberated synths which meld into one another. Proper uplifting stuff. The synths are dropped for a short section which is followed by another small orchestral breakdown. The main tune returns again with force until the track starts on the wind down process.
B2: B2 Mix (Original Mix (14/01/2004)) The B2 Mix starts with an orchestral section and then jumps straight into a rolling bass, steady beat and a techno style hi-hat which drives this mix on more than the others, also providing an overall darker feeling. A longer breakdown follows, which consists of another orchestral section which again transforms into a synth build up. The main body of the B2 Mix is different to the others however. A less reverberated synth plays a section of quick repeating scales, followed by a section of stabbing chords - both of which follow and complement the bassline instead of acting as an overlying melody. At this point, the track begins its end by removing the synths, half of the percussion, the sfx and then the bass.
Conclusion:
DJ Tatana & Mystery have created a wonderful track - the A1 and B1 mixes are made truly epic by the awesome synths and are full of power and feeling. Soul Cry is a brilliant production and is going to go down well in all of the big trance rooms.
