It always looks dubious when you see a bootleg version of one of the all time greats. However, this bootleg has a different attitude in mind and it works out as a nice harder trance acknowledgement of the almighty 'For An Angel'...
More often than not, bootlegs of the biggest tunes out there don't come near the quality of the originals they are trying to emulate. This one though, I think, is different. Its not trying to improve or remake 'For An Angel'. Justice could never be done like that. What it IS doing though, is acknowledging this awesome trance anthem and enabling it to tread in the grounds of harder trance.
:: Unknown - Unknown [Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel BOOTLEG] :: White Label :: ANGEL001
Single Sided The track starts with a small hint and taster of the original For An Angel sound. A snappy but weak beat plays for a short while until a really hard trance style pounding beat and gutsy bass are thrown in - very similar to the sound Cosmic Gate are renowned for producing. The beat continues and a very electronic sounding instrument is introduced and plays periodically to introduce the breakdown with a fading ultra fast roll of kicks. Heres the gorgeous bit! You're treated to one round of the classic, unedited main hook/melody from For An Angel itself - sublime. Next, new synths make the transition back to the big beat and hard trance sound and a melody, based on the same notes as For An Angel, but respectfully staying away from the original. After a few repeats, the track ends.
Again I must stress this track isn't trying to edit For An Angel in any way and for that it deserves respect. Its acknowledging one of the best tracks out there by showcasing it in a bed of hard trance which enables it to spread out across genres without changing.
Conclusion:
A brave and successful attempt at Bootlegging this awesome track. It has my vote. Well done to whoever is responsible! Oh, and I hope you read the recent article here on i:Vibes on Bootlegging tracks and got permission from Mr. Van Dyk before-hand! ;-)
