The cunning title gives away no clues as to what this could be, other than the fourth installment of the hardhouse 'K Series'. What is held in store for us on this little one sided wonder...
Theres not much to be found out about the mysterious K Series and their little succession of tracks. Heres what Number 4 has to offer...
:: K Series - Number 4 :: K Series :: K004
Single Sided The track starts quickly with a good solid beat, a medley of percussion and periodic sfx samples. This is quickly built upon by the addition of a thick line of rolling bass, not typical to hard house by any means, but it still carries a distinct hard house feel along with it. Then the idea behind the track is revealed - a revelation which took me, rather pleasantly I might add, by surprise... The vocal sample from FSOL's 'Papua New Guinea' makes an appearance! This is followed by a quiet jittery synth playing its own rendition of the Papua New Guinea backing melody. This goes down very well indeed, and takes you into a breakdown which features a louder version of the jittery synth, more vocal and also the addition of that spine tingling Papua New Guinea 'tinkle tinkle' sample. A kick roll builds up and propels you into the main section - all the vocal samples, synths and bass really playing up the Papua New Guinea melody. From here, the track winds down, losing the vocals, the synths and the sfx, eventually coming to a close.
Conclusion:
A very lively hard house interpretation of the famous Papua New Guinea by FSOL - one that is very welcome indeed! It doesn't borrow too heavily from the original and makes good use of traditional hard house methods to complete this adaptation. Very good stuff!
