Fex is a virtual unknown but when you look into it, you realize he is 1/3rd of the Australian group Infusion. Will he make a name for himself or will he continue the Infusion mold?
To most of you, the name Frank Xavier means nothing but if I told you that he was one third of the Australian group called Infusion then you would understand. Infusion have released singles on Marine Parade before and this is Frank’s solo venture called Fex. Side A is I Want Your Heart and Side B is Frozen Fairway.
I Want Your Heart is the first production of Frank Xavier that I have heard. I like what I hear because he starts it with a grungy electro type bassline, which gives me the sense of an almost 1980’s feel with a harder edge. It is a chugging beat that goes throughout the song. You see why it is a favorite among deejays because of the addictive beat. The bassline drives the song for the most part then the breakdown hits. At one point, the song breaks down and the bassline is taken away and you hear almost silence then it is brought back in slowly. You think silence and you wonder what is happening then the beat and bassline come back it. Nice trick used by Frank Xavier because deejays like breakdowns like that. Should get the crowd to notice and I enjoy breakdowns with silence and then bringing the beat back in. I like the song and it should appeal to most people.
Frozen Fairway sounds more Infusionesque and is probably progressive breaks. It is a mellower track compared to the first track on Side A. I see it as a great starter for sets for deejays or something that you would enjoy using near the start to build an atmosphere. The song is beat driven and they add these swirling noises to the song. Which I enjoy progressive breaks songs and this is one of them. It contains no vocals and sounds similar to something that would be done in the Grayarea mold. It is something totally different but totally ear pleasing. I love it because of the different nature and it is still breakbeat. You get the idea of listening to something on a frozen day in some colder part of the world with snow all around. I love Frozen Fairway. So unique that it is hard to describe in words because of the different additions and different effects. Definitely one to check out, go get it and decide for yourself.
Conclusion:
Both are great tracks and both are different from each other. It should appeal to the breakbeat lovers and the progressive breaks lovers. First song, I can see deejays using it near the end of their sets and Frozen Fairway, I can see deejays using it near the beginning. You see why Infusion is so highly regarded because of the genius of their members.
