Remixing old classics must really be in season right now! Heres a remix of the landmark classic 'Flaming June' by B.T. Although already playlisted by Scott Bond, does it fail the original masterpiece, or does it put on a sterling performance...?
December 29th, 1997, marked the release of one of the all time greatest tracks. B.T.'s 'Flaming June' was trance perfection six years ago and still is today. There have been many remixes. Earlier this year, 3 Fingers produced Fingers Burnt - Frozen February, which failed to make much of an impact. Without further ado, here is Mudblood - Flaming June '04!
:: Mudblood - Flaming June '04 :: White Label :: MUD001
Single Sided The track begins with a strong yet softer feeling beat, a driving bassline and a good reinforcement of percussion. The sound is gradually built up and added to, with various subtle instruments backing up the bassline. This immensely gradual build up drops you into the breakdown. Here, we're made to wait in eager anticipation as an absolutely superb dreamy backing synth firmly but gently fills the background and the trademark Flaming June piano and synth plays a teaser of the melody. The few instruments in the breakdown are brilliantly faithful to the original - here you will be absorbing every moment of it and wont want it to end. Alas the breakdown begins a little warm up passage and drops you into a much stronger feeling beat and bass driven section. This is again one big building progression, as more additions are noticed in the background - the bass is developed and the piano melody is re-introduced. Another breakdown follows with more of the dreamy backing synth - that beautiful sound alone reminds me of the original. This time, the Flaming June melody plays and lets you know its time for a build up. The track drops back in with all parts playing. Everything is here - all the synths, instruments and melodies carried along by a un-weakening beat. A beautiful moment. After this pinnacle of class, the track has to begin its inevitable wind down.
Conclusion:
'Mudblood' have done a great job with this remix! All the right parts still sound like the classic Flaming June without making it feel like a copy and paste type of affair. The breakdowns are sublime and the final section will bring a smile to your face. Quality.
