The German Phenom splits from his New Zealand partner (Tony Burt) for a quick Limited Session of Hard Trance with a bang! Uplifting and hard as hell. But is it any good.……..

Mattius Schetter and Micheal Brauckmann make up Mat Silver. One of the best in Hard Trance makers and along with Tony Burt are real pace setters in the area of trance that is getting bigger and bigger. Bring artists like Dumonde and S.H.O.K.K to prominence and now Mat looks to be following,
But wear as those artists tend to be very hard hitter, Mat Silver approach is that of Uplifting and Euphoric, hard Hitting!! (If you get my meaning)

Mat Silver-Sensory -141bpm

Sensory is pure Euphoric trance as only Mat Silver can do!! The track opens up with some excellent hard hitting drum loops and a Driving bassline, followed closely by those massive trance claps that really get crowds dancing. The track doesn’t waste any time getting down to work. It builds and builds adding new layers of hi-hats and these strange but subtle Bird like churbs, which progress and mould into a sequence with only the occasional retro sounding drum snares for company. (Very Jan Hammer like, them!!)
Once at the first mini Break, a build up sequence is introduced, this causes a nice blend of a floatly trance like sequences pitted against deadly acid lines in the background and the hard furious drum loops of hard trance. The drive on the song is amazing and after only one turn of the build sequence we get bass changes which only seem to strengthen the pace and power of this tune. After some more retro snares we get a massive sounding, reverb fest, Huge sounding Strings create a brilliant floating sensation, but there is no time to waste here, the strings soaring, fade out to be replaced by the Arpeggio version of the same tune. Before you know it, the track is off. Mat brings back the techno style Churbs and powers on with the main theme and bass changes blasting, bringing the build sequence back over the main.
There is a Powerful acid line section with the build sequence mixed over, leading us back to the soaring strings and the second but much small break. This time some wonderful Sound effects and the best Effect of all, a well placed piece of silence, greets us before powering back into the main Theme. The wonderful acid line riff comes back to us to send us off on our way to the close.

Mat Silver-Lost In Time 139bpm

The Flip on this double A side is a delay dream. The loops are banging about on 303 lines and it makes for a super and fresh sounding trancer. Much as with the A side this track wastes no time at all getting under way. The drums start as those delayed kicks and moves on with those massive sounding claps again. But this time there is no standard bass line. Instead we get a driven bass sequence close to those you can find on Power trance (for instance Cosmicman, Hiver & Hammer or Transa).
When in fact that is what this is, pure power trance.
Here we get techno style sequences making there way across the loops which layers of flange and huge amounts of Production value! A delayed synth is introduced from a tiny break and away the track flies, guided by that sequence for around a minute until a rather a harsh end to the drums brings in the break. Here this song comes into it’s own, there is a Vocoded vocal sample from one of my fav films and very little in terms of floatly trance, but power sequences rear up and drive forward to a massive sounding snare up. This song really reminds me of early CJ Stone and with that said, it means quality! It powers happily along for a good 2 minutes and drops to the drum loops only, then brings in the claps and the Delayed sequence and we start all over again. The vocal sample, the power sequences and the Hard as hell drum loops. Real no nonsense producing.

Conclusion:
Above The Sky have a real winner here. But they always do with Mat Silver. (Fine day and Unique being some of the best productions I’d heard all last year) and this won’t disappoint Mat Silver Fans. Some people will say that their tunes sound a little rigid with out Tony Burt on board but I’d just laugh and say that they should listen to the A side here especially and be amazed.
The A side is a magical number. Truly uplifting with no cheese included. Just Quality.
B is a real power corker and can get any dance floor rocking.
Check them out if you’d like to hear something Unique, as Mat Silver (on their own or With Mr Burt) are. It’s hard trance but skilfully uplifting, powerful yet Hand in the Air! Trance like no other.
