After being released in September, E-Craig's 'The Beat Goes On' returns in the form of two brand new remixes - one by Mike Robbins and the other by Sam Sharp - both of which present themselves as mean hard trancers...
This remix disc differs greatly from the first instalment of 'The Beat Goes On'. Initially, you had the hard house E-Craig Hard Dub and the very very dance clubby sounding Club Mix, which was ok as long as you liked your hard house or could stomach a bit of clubland cheese. This time, however, both new remixes are good, strong hard trancers and with plays and very positive comments from DJs such as Marco V, Eddie Halliwell and Judge Jules, they are leaving a much heavier impression this second time around.

A: Mike Robbins Remix Mike Robbins has recently graced our ears with a previous hard trance production of his own - the tough 'Are You A Freak'. This remix of 'The Beat Goes On' is influenced heavily by Mike's previous track - it features similar bass and has the same driving rhythmic backing. The bass here, though, is deeper and more prominent and it really rolls along pulling everything with it as it goes. The track builds from the start, on top of the bass and strong kick, with a sea of percussion until the lead synth steps onto centre stage during the breakdown. It is a very cutting and shrill sounding synth - possibly sounding a tiny bit out of tune at some points though. This gives way to some rather nice sounding roboticized female vocals before the tune readies itself for the main section. The main section is wonderfully strong - driven by the rolling bass and filled by a constantly repeating, very coarse and electronic sounding synth in the background. Here, instead of breaking and having another run at the main section, the track takes a different approach - it has an extended break, which works its way back up slightly and then leads off with just the beat and rolling bass to the end of the track.
AA: Sam Sharp Remix Having recently produced a tough remix of Ron Van Den Beuken's 'Timeless', Sam Sharp isn't stopping there and has come up with this tough and dark remix of 'The Beat Goes On'. You're quickly thrown into the remix with a soft but heavy sounding bass being bounced along by a lively bassline. This is built upon by the addition of some industrial sounding synth and percussion. The breakdown is introduced by a stuttering vocal after which comes the main synth. It comes in quietly and gets louder and louder - the sound it makes is just spine tinglingly chilling. Such a dark and powerful sound, heavily reverberated so it lingers even longer - its spot on when combined with the beat and bass. As with the above Mike Robbins Remix, there is an extended break section, but this is followed by another, very welcome, instalment of the main section, before it plays itself out to the end of the track.
Conclusion:
Two solid hard and dark trancers are here on this remixes disc. The Mike Robbins Remix is strong in the middle, with its coarse and grainy sound but is a little weak at points when it comes to the main synth. The Sam Sharp Remix comes out on top and is my favourite side, though, with its heavy bass and extremely dark and powerful sounding synth.
