Underwater and Southern Fried Records are the first two labels to sign up but what is this new service all about and what does this mean for the industry?
Darren Emerson's Underwater Recordings and Norman Cook's Southern Fried Records are the first labels to sign up their entire back catalogues to this new mp3 downloading service. Trax2burn.com is a new site that was launched just recently and it aims to provide legal mp3's versions of label's recordings for a small price. Only two labels have joined the service so far but they expect more labels to jump up at the chance. They are aiming to allow mp3 downloads of the back catalogues for .99 pence and it would be legal downloads. They are hoping to give the top dj's passwords to download certain tracks before they are released, so that they can burn the promo mp3's on to cd-r's to play at gigs.
What does this hold for the dance music industry? Maybe it is a new way for labels to cut promotion costs and make some money via mp3's but most doubt it will have any impact because deejays have a tremendous love for vinyl but with Apple's itunes doing well, maybe it is a step forward.
Could this be the way of the future? Who knows, stay tuned to find out.
