A Malaysian DJ has broken the DJ record, how long and what did he play and what happened to him after the record. Read on to find out!
The record for the longest DJ set in the world has been broken, when a Malaysian DJ completed 79 hours and five minutes of continuous mixing on Dec 29.
DJ Maverick walked away from the decks in a dazed state after bettering the existing record by five hours and five minutes, with a set comprising of techno, and hard house. He was rushed to hospital for treatment and was put on a saline drip, but was quickly discharged after doctors advised him to get plenty of rest at home.
When asked what was it like to mix a thousand tracks of techno and hard house back to back continuously for three days, Maverick commented: "In the final hours, it was havoc! I couldn't even speak, let alone mix two records. It was like my mental and physical states weren't connected... I tried to go on, but I just couldn't, so I had to walk off," he said.
However, despite his remarkable display of stamina, Maverick's record still stands challenged by an 80-hour set pulled off by American DJ, Buddy Love, which has not yet been officially recognised.
The 35 year-old DJ, who was born Teh Eng Keong in the Northern Malaysian island of Penang, runs a hard dance night with local promoters, Futurejazz.fm.
