“FX Zone” is a new alias from Ivan Lujic (better known as Phil Green), the man who has had dozens of hits with his producing partner Dave 202. Let’s find out if this release has the same power and strength as earlier tunes by him..
Phil Green has been into the scene for quite a while now. His most recent EP (Tribal Trance / Solaris) has been doing very well on the British label “Difuse”, and now he’s back to do some more damage on this same label again.
A-side: Nu NRG remix
Nu NRG have been doing very well recently. Their Connective EP is one of the best selling records at the moment, and their remix for Basic Dawn (also on Difuse) has been an enormous hit in clubs worldwide. Let’s see what they managed to get out of this track. A not too hard kick, a fast clap and a few hi-hats guide us into the heavy tones of the bassline that gets added just a little later. Not really sounding like other Nu NRG tracks, we move on to get to hear a synth on the background that’s playing a repetitive introductive melody. After some snares, the melody gets a bit more variation, and is being accompanied by some soft strings and a few effects on the background. This goes on for a while, until the moment the break is starting. The first melody from the build-up remains playing, but this time on the foreground. A very uplifting melody is trying to climb up it’s way to the speakers, creating a superb and energetic atmosphere. This is true Nu NRG class: a fantastic melody, a tight bassline and very well-done percussion make this into one of them tracks that would certainly drive you insane in any occasion. After the climax, layers are starting to be removed from the track, ending up to the end of this remix.
B-side: Original Mix
A few hi-hats and other percussion elements serve as a decent intro for this mix. A hardtrancy kick gets going a few seconds later, being accompanied by a tight bassline a few counts later, that reminded me of some of Phil Green’s previous productions. As the buildup progresses we hear a few synths going on in the background, playing some effective melodies. Some nice strings get added on the way to the break, also serving as one of the main sounds we hear at the beginning of the break. A slight build-down seems to be occuring at first sight, but after a bit of silence we get to hear a rather simple, but very effective main melody building up. This does sound a bit like earlier tracks from mr. Green, because of the way the melody builds up. The synths are increasing their volumes, filters are being taken off the sound, ready to go towards total frenzy.. When the percussion and bassline kick in again, we can see that the melody works out very well combined with it, mainly because of the fact that it isn’t too complicated and has some good tonal variations in it. Not getting boring at all, the melody gets repeated a few times again in the climax, readying the track to go towards the buildoff.
Conclusion:
Difuse has done it again. This vinyl is a must-have for any selfrespecting (hard)trance lover out there, especially the ones that have liked previous Nu NRG and Phil Green productions. Let’s hope they will brings us loads and loads more quality like this in the future!
