New Label Alert!!! This is the first outing for 12 Tone Records from The Netherlands, which a division of Double Dance and Hoezo Media. This EP sees the talents of Jules Reivers, Roel Gommans and Rob Dammers. All new artists plying their talents in a bid to be the next big thing! We’ve got to sides here with two different songs, so, will this be a true treasure or a swan song bum start!! Read on campers!!
Jules & Raoul-Progess 139bpm Now, once in a while you get a tune come along out of nowhere with which you have no idea what to expect. I just didn’t know what to think of this unknown piece of circular plastic at first, well for the first 30 seconds or so that is! Progress opens slowly, mainly just a background sequence, blinking and blipping is way to a kick and clap loop. This makes mixing a breeze for all you Djs out there. The track moves on with vocoded male vocal samples to some lovely effect swishes to an awesome driving bass sequence. This is soon joined by a straight forward trance sequence and some nice layer work, adding depth. The break is also standard trance fair with the resurgence of the layers, but this time overall more deep in nature. REAL HANDS IN THE AIR STUFF! The break is well worked here, with arpeggio synth blending up from the background. Now prepare yourself at this point, you get an awesome cut (with zero build) into the massive uplifting main riff and some stunning basses/key changes. WOOOO! This song goes & goes for two very strong powerful minutes, until it falls back on the build sequences and into an Airwave/L-Vee style pounder, moving on to a beautifully constructed tension building second break via snare up. The main riff makes an appearance alone here then WHAM (no not the 80’s pop group) your powering back into one of the best tunes I’ve heard from 2003. It’s a simply stunning production, with those little vocal vocodes that really do just work. Again towards the end, the song whittles down to the same background sequence and kick making mixing a doddle. Stick this on and watch the club Explode and bounce into action from pillar to post!
Rob D-Ambulance 139bpm Techno Anyone? The Y side sees Rob D’s bizarre offering! This is so far away from the A side it’s not right! This tune comes across as a Picotto/Deruyter/Push hybrid. It has purely techno/Electro stylings, the bass line (very Push like), the delayed kicks with metal hihats (Picotto like) Horror vocals (mostly like Picotto. Lol) and most of all the sequences are very Yves Duruyter like. It’s different that’s for sure but it really doesn’t lack enthusiasm. The track is some what structure less really and the ends up as all good techno/electro stuff should, being 6-7 minutes of off the wall chaos! However both the beginning and end are plighted by a quite shockingly bad looped vocal. (If anyone knows what the hell she’s saying, let me know on the comments below! Cheers) Mind, it does work well when mixing so I may be able to forgive it. Just! Strange but well worth a spin, if you can put up with the vocals. It’s a good, if not great addition to any techno/electro set.
Conclusion:
Overall First off, it’s nice to hear true underground style type tunes with zero commercial input at all. So to the record; The x side (A) is an unbelievable tune following the styles of Mesh or the Classic In trance we Trust tune Svenson’s Clubbing on Sunshine (Original Mix). One of the best Uplifting sequences for ages making it a great play and dancer for years to come! The y (B) will appeal to the more techno orientated DJs/Clubbers, especially the Nukleus and BXR Fans. On the Strength of the A, get this record now and watch the crowds go bananas! Real good luck to Jules Roaul and Rob D! Great stuff! P.S There is a sound smaple of both sides at 12 tone's webbie. Please see below!
