Gabriel & Dresden Sweeping Strings Mix:
When the listeners of Armin Van Buuren's weekly show 'A State Of Trance' were asked to vote for their favorite track of the year, it was Gabriel & Dresden's Remix of As The Rush Comes that came out on top with 322 votes from 1733 voters. The first thing that hits you is the bassline. It is very solid and very typical of Gabriel & Dresden. As the melody slowly starts to fade in, you can tell right away that the track is going to take you on a journey, and that's exactly what it does. Early in the track there are very subtle and faded vocals; 'Embrace Me,' and a sort of soothing chant. Then in come the famous vocals "Traveling somewhere, could be..." yes yes, you know it by now I know. The vocals are really what make the track in my opinion. It's quite progressive, with the breakdown very calm and when it does kick in it comes out of nowhere. This has been hammered by every man and his dog, including the big names such as Paul van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, etc. Congratulations to Gabriel & Dresden for this track that will no doubt be looked back upon in many years time as a true classic.
Markus Schulz "Coldharbour" Remix:
If you are familiar with Markus Schulz's "Coldharbour" Remixes you will be aware that they are very progressive, and quite dark. If that is your sort of thing then this remix is for you. The placement of the vocals are a bit different to. They are looped in various patterns and sound quite effective. The bass is very heavy and makes the track very slow paced. Admittedly not my style, but a great effort here from Markus Schulz.
Armin Van Buuren's "Universal Religion" Remix:
Can you remember Armin Van Buurens Mix of Iio - Rapture from many moons ago? That is exactly what I think of when I hear ATRC and I’ll tell you why. In his remix of As The Rush Comes, the first section of the song follows a pretty similar structure to that of the Sweeping Strings Remix, with the typical Armin percussion and bassline. The synths are very powerful and are effective with the melody. But then out of nowhere comes a whole new riff that gives this progressive track a much more 'trancey' edge. This is exactly what he did with Iio - Rapture, with the adding of a whole new section. It's very effective, and as a result makes it my personal favorite out of all the remixes. I believe it was first debuted at Global Gathering in 2003 and the effect on the crowd was simply immense. A fine remix from Armin that keeps all the key elements from the Sweeping Strings Remix whilst adding his signature to an awesome piece of Electronica.
Above & Beyond's "Dynaglide" Remix:
Not what I have come to expect from the legends that are Jono Grant, Paavo Siljamäki & Tony McGuinness. Not that this is a bad thing, it's just very different from their usual style. Just like Armin, they add a very ‘trancey’ riff that adds a lot to the track. The bassline is quite hard and typical of Above & Beyond. It's very strange hearing these type of uplifting synths in such a progressive track and to me doesn't 'fit' as well as Armin Van Buuren's synths do.
Conclusion:
This gem has already been released and you can pick it up now from any good record store. As well as this you can expect to hear it on Radio One as it became A-Listed on Boxing Day. Motorcycle's latest production was debuted on New Years Eve at Godskitchen and is titled 'Imagination,' so be sure to look out for that!
