In the past we have heard many stories about how the RIAA acts to get royalty fees from poeple dealing with pirated music. In Norway they have found a new way to collect more fees.
TONO is Norway's Performing Rights Society, they issue licences for music users, collect fees from venues and producers, and distribute the money to the right owners.
Since they think the artists are getting too little revenue they have come up with a couple of new ways to collect royalty fees.
All companies in Norway with more than 30 employees should from now on pay Tono if one or more of the following conditions are met: 1. Employees listen to radio or cd at their office or other places within the company 2. Employees listen to radio or cd while driving a company-owned car
In Denmark they have had this rule about music when driving for a while, with great success, so now the Norwegians follow their example and broadens it a bit.
Companies must also pay their royalty fee if they play music when you are put on hold on their phone.
