Super8 has finished their new EP. The tracks, 'Alba' and 'Dawn', are set for a 16th of February release on the ever growing Anjunabeats label! They have made Paul Van Dyk's playlist and Alba was made Armin Van Buuren's Tune Of The Week on his A State Of Trance show. Read on to see what these tracks are about...
Super8 is Miika Eloranta from Helsinki in Finland. He also forms one half of the well known trance duo Aalto. Having done some remix work in the past and recorded a few tracks as part of the Aalto alias and alongside Orkidea, Miika steps up as Super8 to present two brand new trancers - 'Alba' and 'Dawn'.

A: Alba This begins in a fairly laid back fashion with a rocksteady beat and light hint of some tapping drums in the background. This is joined soon by some more percussion and some electro-sounding sfx synths. The track then kicks itself into life by adding a driving bassline and then some choir "Aaahs" to lift things up for the light and dreamy incoming chords played by the main synth. You are overwhelmed in a sea of sound just as the breakdown comes in then things subside. The lead synth continues to play the gentle chords then it develops into the full melody. The synth itself is backed by some great sounding booms in the background and seems to gain a fullness to its sound along with a crisper edge - a wonderful touch! When the tune drops back in, the main synth is accompanied by a simple sounding instrument that complements the melody wonderfully. What you have at this point is an absolutely beautiful sound - thick bass and dreamy trance synths playing a wonderful melody with a little extra bit to listen to over the top to make it even more fresh and interesting. Now follows a calmer section which features the synth chords from the beginning. This leads into a beatless break where the synths build up with a snare roll back into the final main section of pure trance loveliness! Superb!
B: Dawn Dawn is a more soothing approach to melodic trance. It begins deceptively, with a beat accompanied by some light, latin sounding percussion. Things soon change however, as a light bassline is faded slowly in and, with a growl of a lovely deep sfx, the main, heavier bassline is introduced. A synth plays a simple melody over the top of everything while there are snippets of sfx coming from every angle. The build continues as you get a sneak preview of the main synth which plays a few notes of the melody just before the buildup reaches a maximum and the breakdown comes in. At near silence, the synth returns - a very distinct but smooth sound - absolutely dreamy, a pure trance sound again. When the track drops back in, the synth assumes a position somewhere inbetween the foreground and background of the track - a very strange effect, but one that works very well as a new instrument is brought in to play ontop of the synth melody as it changes note. This addition is very nice - it sounds like a cross between a piano and a guitar! Now, for even more variation, and following a growing trend in trance these days, comes a breakbeat section which precedes the final ambient breakdown. Another less immense synth toys with the melody before the main one takes the reigns and soothes its way into another breakbeat section then on into the final section of awesomeness!
Conclusion:
'Alba' and 'Dawn' are two immense tracks! Super8 has really put in the effort and as a result, produced these two superb pieces of trance. Absolute quality.
