John picked up Mahadeva, one of the best selling psy singles ever, and gave it his trademarked facelift. Mahadeva 2004, is it any good?
A: John OO Fleming Remix AA: Supakane Remix
Mahadeva is one of those classics that when it gets played, it just makes the whole crowd go crazy. And lately, we heard John play his own remix, and ever since that moment, a lot of people noted it down on their wants list. So did I.
Picking up where John stopped with his Le Voyage EP, this remix has the same feel and standard of quality production all over it. Great synths, great riffs, but still, the magic in this song lies with the melody from the original. Those fast changing notes from the melody is what makes your spine tingle.
Then, during the breakdown, the revamped melody gently leaves, and you get the old melody. OOOH breathtaking stuff! This shows what John is capable of. And I know what some of you might be thinking, I hope he didn't mess up the original, but he didn't. He gave his own sound to it, and that is what makes it so special. John's sound can't be described that easily. He's one of the few DJ;s that really uses all styles to complement eachother, psy, goa, prog, uplifting, And this remix shows every sign of it.
The Supakane Remix starts off on a completely different note. Much heavier on the synths. The melody has been filtered a few times, making it sound more distant. This remix just oozes a completely different style that goes perfect together with John's Mix. John is full on trance, this is subtle. In the last part of the song, you get this how should I put it, freaky added effect, a bit like it comes from another planet. All the different synths, strings, and effects make this remix stand out on a different note than John's.
Conclusion:
Both remixes are without a doubt of the utmost quality, but it is John's remix that will capture most of the attention. Because it has that unique John sound plastered all over it.
