Katana brings us the first track on the brand new Reset Records label - 'One Solid Wave'. Due for release on the 16th February, this one has already made it big with names such as Armin Van Buuren, Judge Jules and Ferry Corsten to name a few! Read on to see how Reset Records first outing fares...
Randy Katana started producing tracks over 10 years ago. Since then, he moved away from that and directed his efforts towards working on a record label. In 2001 though, he returned to music production and did various remixing work and produced quality tracks such as the popular Fancy Fair and the more recent Tribal Shock.
His latest work is 'One Solid Wave', which is the first on the new Reset Records label. 'One Solid Wave' stays true to the new labels words which said we could expect high quality trance, with the addition of some more techno, progressive and tribal styles. This new track has a very tribal based sound to it, while at the same time we see influences from tech, prog and trance! It is very hard to categorize this unique track, so you can decide for yourselves...
:: Randy Katana - One Solid Wave :: Reset Promo :: RS001
1) One Solid Wave The initial starting beat for this track sounds fairly typical - a good beat with a few more smaller drums adding a little variation. A short female vocal sample which is used throughout the track comes in now and echoes back and forth. Next, unexpectedly, there is a boom of sound and the track breaks to introduce a rather trancy sounding synth. Its a fairly coarse and penetrating sound which stabs along on the same note providing a new rhythm to follow. When the beat comes back in, it is no longer the standard beat it used to be, but is a new tribal sounding beat with appropriate backing. More percussion is added - the hihats borrowing from a typical techno based sound. Along with the new beat and rhythmic synth, you can't help but start tapping your foot - while remaining quite minimal, the track still captures you with its good rhythm. There is a very extended break in the middle of the track which focuses on individual parts of the track in turn. First off its the vocal, then the synth fades slowly in and maintains a presence throughout the break. A building drum roll leads to one of many large booming whooshing sounds that are excellently engineered and used throughout this track. Next in this long break features a muffled backing drum beat which slowly builds back into the main beat of the track, aided by more building masses of sound. From here, the beat and synth continue until the synth becomes more sparse and the track reaches an end.
'One Solid Wave' is a very interesting track. It is a fusion of several styles - tribal sounding beats, a trance influenced synth, techno style percussion and an overall progressive feel.
Conclusion:
A very solid and well produced track by Randy Katana. 'One Solid Wave' is sure to get your body moving and its varied approach in its construction does good to hold your interest. A great start for Reset Records!
