After last years limited release of the track `Voice Of An Angel`, Incentive has decided to re-release this track with a new remix and a new track called `Nocturnal Delight`, which has already been played by numerous top DJ's. Let`s see what this vinyl will bring us...
Matt Darey has had numerous releases already, including stormers like his remixes for Binary Finary and Lost Tribe - Gamemaster, and his own tracks Moody and Beautifal. Voice Of An Angel was released originally in 2003, but has taken a remix treatment and has been fully released now on Incentive Recordings.. let`s see.
A: Matt Darey - Nocturnal Delight
Starting off with a steady beat and some shy dolphin sounds, we soon get to a bassline that gets louder and louder until it has reached an acceptable volume. The percussion is building up in a nice way, leading the way for a rusty synthline on the background, which gets support from a few very nice emotional strings chords a bit later. Until now the track sounds very very clean, not too minimal, but not too overcrowded as well. The synthline that`s being used in the build-up sounds very clear, and also serves as one of the first sounds in the break. A silence occurs, after which you would expect some sort of cliche strings melody. No way! Mr. Darey has put in a super-energetic melody right after this, perfect for all you guys out there that love them huge riffs. After a bit of teasing with a few snares, we get to the full climax which is superb! The rolling bassline sounds immense with the melody, and sends shivers down your spine when listening intensively. After the first climax a second build-up appears, leading us to the last break in the track. Only difference is that the melody get`s its introduction a bit faster here. After the last moment of hands-in-the-air, we get to the build-off.
B1: Matt Darey & Marcella Woods - Voice Of An Angel (Michael Woods vs. Matt Darey remix
This should be competing for the longest artist + title award in 2004 until now I think. Michael Woods has produced alot of superb hits during the last few years, (including the massive If You Want Me) and has now teamed up with Matt Darey to bring us an exciting remix of Voice Of An Angel. A tight beat, nice bassline and some good percussion (a lot like some other Michael Woods tracks) guide us through the build-up, which consists of a few introductional synthlines plus some background effects. After a minute or so we get to the break, which is firstly made up of the vocals from the original mixes. When Marcella is done singing we get to hear a filtered synth, reminiscent of the Vocal Dub melody, but a lot more energetic because of the energetic synth that has been used here. All in all a very nice remix which has elements from both producers in it.
AA2: Matt Darey & Marcella Woods – Voice Of An Angel (Vocal Dub)
This track has already been featured on the previous release as well, but I’ll review it anyway. The build-up uses some clever synthlines, and nice rolling bassline and a bit of good percussion. As we get to the main break, we hear Marcella’s voice appearing on the background, leading as an introduction for the vocals. You shouldn’t be misled by the word `Dub` in the title, because this still has a lot of vocals in it. During the singing, a melody gets built up in a subtle way, kicking in nicely during the first climax. This is, compared with the remix on side AA1, more of a chilly version of the track because of the calm melodies and peaceful synthies. After the first climax, a second build-up and climax appear, after which we get to the build-off.
Conclusion:
Matt Darey has delivered us trance-fans some top-tracks again. `Nocturnal Delight` is a real stormer of a track, with an immense melody and good percussion. The Matt Darey vs. Michael Woods remix of `Voice Of An Angel` is very nice as well, my choice over the Vocal Dub I think. If you've been a fan of Matt Darey or just like some energetic (vocal) trance, this is something you have to get!
