Katana's latest monster, 'One Solid Wave', has been recently released. Coming along with it is the much talked about remix by Sam Sharp. With massive support from the likes of Armin Van Buuren, Judge Jules, Ferry Corsten and Marco V, there must be something very special about this one...
In a few short words, there IS something very special about this one. Sam Sharp, who has been responsible for a lot of quality work over the past months - remixing 'Soul Cry', 'Timeless', 'The Beat Goes On', producing his own track 'Twister' and now remixing 'One Solid Wave', has pulled out all of the stops for this one. The original (reviewed here) - which was a solid piece of progressive meets tribal meets techno - has been transformed into a hardened, dark trance monster. This remix resides on the AA side of the vinyl.

AA: Sam Sharp Remix This remix is strong from the very beginning. A punchy beat is heavily supported by some awesomely deep and pulsating bass. This bass does more than help drive the track - it fuels it superbly. After a short while, a synth which holds a single note fades in and cuts quickly. It is very hard trance in nature, has a coarse sound, lots of reverb and sustain and is nicely tuned to work brilliantly with the bass. Together they create an extremely quality powerful sound. This synth spends a few minutes playing a few soft notes in the background and periodically coming in with a few more severe notes. This makes for a rather unique style of build up! Eventually a breakdown section is introduced. Here, the bass is cut and the synth is introduced properly. It plays through the stabbing melody of the original, growing in power and accentuating certain notes. This culminates is a long held note after which the beat and bass boom back into play and the synth takes its lead position playing the stabbing 'One Solid Wave' rhythmic melody. It is joined now and again by a similar synth an octave or two higher and they both work together, complementing each other in a balanced battle for power. The vocal sample from the Original Mix is still present here - it is used very well at the end of sections where it is echoed and repeated in time with the beat. Another great little feature is that every now and again, during the miniature pauses between sections, a new bass instrument plays three deep, descending notes to bring in the following section. This may sound simple and overstated but it sounds excellent and adds even more power to this already mighty sound. The synth takes a step back for a short rest period, before a final breakdown ensues where it builds itself back again, holds, and then releases back into the main section. After this final section of mastery, the main features of the track are cut and the bass carries you on to the end of the track.
Theres so much in this track that works together to produce an awesome and powerful sound. The bass and synth blend wonderfully and the resulting sound is broken up and complemented by the little vocal snippets and the miniature bass instrument section breaks.
Conclusion:
Sam Sharp has taken an already great track from the more progressive side of dance music and transformed it into an absolutely massive track covering the harder and trancier side. There is no doubt about it, this is one hell of a remix and its going to be nothing short of massive. Absolutely immense, get this record now!
