After an amazing 2003, Dirty Bass returns with his new vinyl release. How is this different from the other releases and what's the vinyl sound like? Read on for the full review
Dirty Bass had a good 2003, when most big name deejays played his amazing "Emotional Soundscape". Dirty Bass was not going to sit back and admire how well his tune had done with the big name deejays all over the world, no he decided to get back into the studio and create more records. This is the 3rd release on his own Dirty Bass Records called Tears In Rain/Decay Returns.
Dirty Bass - Tears In Rain/Decay Returns (DB003)
Side A - Tears In Rain Side B - Decay Returns
Tears in Rain
Side A is a builder of a tune that begins with some nice drumbeats and has a slow start. The beat becomes almost marching in a sense and the pace picks up. This echoey melody comes in and is helped along by many layered elements. A little later on, we then have the dirty bass bassline that comes in. The layered elements become more frequent and you get the feeling of dirty bass in a layered production. All the parts come together to form a complete production that sounds really incredible. If you are looking for something exactly like emotional soundscape then you will be disappointed. It is slower than some but packs an extraordinary kick with some dirty bass.
Decay Returns
Side B is similar to Side A in certain respects. This is a slow builder as well that takes time to get going but once it gets going, it kicks you in the teeth. We start with a funky beat that chugs along for a while then this nasty bass kicks in. It is like Tears In Rain, where it builds slowly then the bass comes in. It has an addictive hook to it and that's what makes the song so incredible. This song is layered as well and it shows that Dirty Bass makes intelligent techno records. Decay Returns is a solid tune and it should gain fans with it's groovy melody.
Conclusion:
Dirty Bass shows himself to be an intelligent producer. He makes what you don't expect, you are not going to get anything similar to Emotional Soundscape but what you will get is two solid techno tracks with the usual dirty bass. Dirty Bass shows with this release that he has a bright future because you can tell he puts his heart and soul into these releases. This one is worth definately checking out.
