Graham Gold- The Ending/Double A
Promo Version of label head Graham Gold’s new singles. Here is a Double A side of Kiss fm's own,GG and his very own brand of Trance. He’s been away for a while in the music making scene but has always been a brilliant DJ. His choice for his label, Relative, have been outstanding and his remixes also brilliant. So Does his own work live up to the high standards he’s been setting? Read on Ladies and Gentlemen….

The Ending 139bpm
Warning, this song contains bucket loads of originality. From the get go, the drum loops are different with delay added to the claps and setting the scene for the rest of the track. It moves beautifully with a power bassline that sweeps you up and moves quickly on to small well placed snare and break beat. This song doesn’t mess around . After the snare it goes straight into the main sequence! Layers and layers of strings bounce around the techno style bass, with a unique sequence which sounds like nothing I’ve heard before, breaking over the top.
The song breaks down to a wondrous break. Strings are soon joined by the main sequence, but in single note form, adding a very Asian feel. It’s clever here, with the main sequence appearing in 3 or 4 different guises , adding real atmosphere until a frantic arpeggio line comes back in. The break beat is once again added, building up, adding that unique ‘one shot’ style sequence back in. After 1 and a half minutes or so of this, the arpeggios from the break come roaring back, adding buckets more energy. Wooo what a song!
The track then winds down with those effect delayed loops and the thumping techno bass. It’s a stunning track which loses it’s way at the mid point with it’s sequences not quite sounding right some how, but should be applauded for a clever approach, new sound and different lay out.
Double A 141bpm
A quicker, deeper affair with this one! In fact, this side couldn’t be any more further from the A side. Dark and tech driven progressive with yet more distinctive sounds. A quick build moves straight into a bizarre bassline, quickly followed by synth and a break.
The sound and feel is very Tiesto like (Lethal Industry), with tons of effects, sequences and basses merging, pounding along for a good minute or so to a snare, which leads to the break. This is a massive break with the synth and looped effects remaining for almost 2 completely drumless minutes! Making mixing a dodel. After another long powerful snare up the song resumes the previous set of loops, falling a little flat and finishing with the standard wind down. Leaving just the effect loop from the break, again. Nice for mixing.
A real interesting piece of tech prog. Which is seriously solid Tiesto Fodder in the making.
Conclusion:
Graham Gold’s production class and ideas pass over very nicely indeed, brilliantly different, with glorious sounding synths and layers on the Ending, which really is something special. It’s a very early contender for best track of the year, yep already! It’s not perfect, but it perfectly unique!
