Hot news from the Armada camp on a new Armin Van Buuren Compilation! Check it out here
The Hague – Dutch DJ and producer Armin van Buuren presents his radioshow ‘A State of Trance’ for over three years now on the national dancestation ID&T Radio. His Thursday night has become a regular ‘thing’ for thousands of listeners. There is no doubt that Armin van Buuren deserves his own program. The last few years this young DJ made name all over the world with brilliant sets and, if possible, even better productions. No wonder he found himself on the third place of the famous DJ Magazine Top 100 over 2003, just behind Tiësto and Paul van Dyk. It’s obvious. Armin van Buuren is hot! The 29th of March will be the date for the release of his new 2 CD-compilation ‘A State of Trance 2004’ in Holland. On the 17th of April a release party has been set on the vessel Ocean Diva in the Amsterdam harbour.
The success of Armin van Buuren has been the result of years of hard work. Something that is even more admirable when you take into account that he succeeded in getting a Masters degree in Law during the same period. It’s fair to say that almost everything Armin van Buuren does seems to work out for the best. Although he could choose a profession in Law, it’s the music that does it for him. Deep, melodic, captivating trance that is, a sound that fits Armin perfectly. Armin: “Trance for me as a genre refers to the old Oakenfold sound, the warm melodic driving music, not the euphoric cheese with vocals, predictable breaks and drumrolls that you hear now in the charts. There are a lot of different definitions of the genre, but to me it’s just warm electronic dance music, anything from progressive to techno. Don’t be a prisoner of your own style, is what I always say; don't get caught up in the bullshit of your own creativity!” With that kept in mind it’s no surprise that Armin demonstrates his versatility on the new double CD. On CD2 you will find deep beautiful tracks that aren’t heard often at parties. These are tracks that were not necessarily made for the dancefloor, they also work out fine when played in your car or listened to at home through a headphone. Naturally, CD1 contains the well known tracks that Armin plays in his sets, whether they are on air or live in front of twenty thousand people.
Freedom is something that Armin fully appreciates as an artist, and all the tracks on his compilations are tried and tested, be it on the radio show, at gigs, or in his own living room. Armin: "Production gives you more freedom 'cos you can experiment more, it can be less obvious than DJ-ing. Whatever - it's the best life there is! It has to do with taste. I don't often get to hear other DJs' sets, but I like that I'm not particularly influenced by anyone else. Some of my sets have influences of house or breaks, but I still have a certain sound that’s my own”.
A recent landmark is his first official global residency with Godskitchen for 2004, playing parties all over the world as well as monthly at Air in Birmingham, UK, all fitted in between his international touring, radio show, and label. Not that he's likely to get intimidated or burnt out by his initial success, mind. "This is just what I want," says Armin. "It’s not love for music, it’s a passion, and it goes beyond liking, beyond a hobby, it’s about a way of living. Music is essential for my life”. To secure his taste of music Armin founded, together with Maykel Piron (former head A&R at Warner Music) and David Lewis (owner of Armin bookingagency), his own record company called Armada. This gave him the opportunity to release whatever he thinks should be released without interference of others. With success, Armada is contracting more brilliant producers each day.
On the 17th of April Armada presents ‘Armin Only’, a solo-set of Armin van Buuren on the vessel Ocean Diva, which is organized to launch his ‘A State of Trance 2004’ compilation. He will perform between 22.00 and 05.00 hours. Tickets are available at Free Recordshop at the price of €24,50. Boarding is possible until 01.00 o’ clock, after that the Ocean Dive departs only to get back at 04.00. Further information about ‘Armin Only’ or ‘A State of Trance’ can be found on www.arminvanbuuren.com.
