Electrovoya is a new alias by Greg Murray and Andy Hagerty, two of the UK's finest tranceproducers. Fundamental has picked up their first single release `Whispers`, which has been caned by numerous top jocks for the last few months. Read on!
Greg Murray is a familiar name in todays trancescene because of his releases on top-labels like Platipus, Lost Language and Fundamental. Andy Hagerty is relatively new, but it seems like we can expect a great deal of quality stuff from him in 2004.
The original mix has already made it to compilations like Gatecrasher and Ronski Speed's Positive Ways III. Let`s find out what the track is like...
A-side: Original Mix
Starting off with a subtle choiry sample, a few background FX and very crispy percussion, we get to a deep bassline, which builds the track up together with accompanying hi-hats and a clap. During the build-up, we hear the first chords of the main melody being fit into the track in a very nice way, being helped by soft strings at the background. A short mini-break appears, in which an emotional melody enters the track. After a few secs, the percussion and bassline return, guiding the melody on its way to the main break. This break is something with some very innovative 'hidden' elements in it. A package of emotional strings are used as the introduction, with whispering vocals on top of them. It seems like we get to hear the names of stars like 'Orion', arranged in such a way that the first letters of each word form the word `Electro`, as in Electrovoya. Cool! As the break progresses we get to hear the melody we heard earlier, but this time being built up with a huge pack of energy on top of it. The melody itself is immensely well crafted, it's emotional but still retains the energy that is needed for a peaktime trance track. The percussion kicks in again, blasting this track into total euphoria. The melody fits in perfectly, I can surely see a dancefloor going totally crazy on something like this!
B-side: Factoria Remix
Factoria is also a fresh UK trance-talent. He has quite a bit of releases coming up in 2004, including the track `A Legends Legacy`, which got a remix treatment by Paul Moelands (known from Re:Locate, Octagen etc.). Directly at the beginning of this remix we can hear this one is slightly harder than the original mix. A thomping kick is being accompanied by a nice rolling bassline, leading us to more build-up pleasure like a few soft synthlines and a repeating choir-like sample. At around two minutes, a huge strings array gets thrown in, playing the same melody as the one in the original mix. Beats are fading away slowly, making place for a more sophisticated party of strings. We get to hear the vocals again, with the melody building up in the background. As the break progresses, filter knobs are being turned to the right, more and more energy gets added every millisecond. The beats and superb bassline both work very well with the melody, creating an uplifting atmosphere that definitely stands out from the rest! After the climax, the build-off starts, enabling the DJ to mix in the next record nice and tight.
Conclusion:
I must say I am hugely impressed by both Greg Murray, Andy Hagerty and Fundamental once again. They have delivered us an immense uplifting anthem, which is sure to set any dancefloor around the world in fire any moment. The `easter egg` with the vocals is very well found, and the main melody is just awesome. I don`t know which mix I like better; the original mix is melody-wise slightly better than the remix, but Factoria has added that extra bit of harder percussion which works out very well. We haven`t had many better tunes than this in 2004, so you better hurry to your recordshop and get this right now!
