Theres yet more movement coming from the direction of Spinnin' Records based RR Records. This time, we see Love Fist - Hangin' On A String appear in 3 subtley different flavours. What has the new Love Fist got in store...?
Love Fist is another E-Craig guise, and along with this new alias comes a slightly different sound. 'Hangin' On A String' comes in the form of three mixes - the E-Craig Mix, the Rough Mix and the 212 Mix. What is immediately noticeable is that all 3 of these mixes are based firmly in the more harder territories of trance than previous RR releases...
:: Love Fist - Hangin' On A String :: RR Promo :: RR021
1: E-Craig Mix The E-Craig mix begins with a percussive kind of beat, but this is soon backed up by E-Craig's distinctive and lively sounding bassline. There is an early build in this track, which gives way to an ambient breakdown. Here a muffled synth plays the beginnings of a melody. The sound slowly evolves and progresses into another buildup, becoming a full on lead synth backed by the beat and bassline once more. During the following section, another instrument is introduced - a synthed-up string playing a clear and constant note high above the main body of the sound. In the middle of the track, things ease off a little and progress into a long breakdown. It is very ambient, with lots of small variations of the main melody played by the lead synth. The bass and synths slowly merge into one big crescendo of sound and powers back into the main body of the track.
This is a very sturdy track and it has quite a progressive feel to it, while retaining some more trancier uplifting elements.
2: Rough Mix The Rough Mix starts with a deceptive ambient section. There is a small quiet synth warbling gently, but all the time growing. A throbbing and bassy but a little de-tuned synth fades in and pulses over the top of the rest of the sound, turning into one long sustained note. This then drops back into its pulsing rhythm, but is backed up this time by a forceful kick and some nimble percussion. More ambience follows in order to bring in the main melody played by a lead synth with a harder and coarser trance sound. Several build ups of kick, percussion and synth are used to finally kick the track off, lead by the synth and backed up by some subtly snappy bass. After a short while, the track begins to fade layers out and becomes more and more sparse until it reaches its end.
This tougher sounding mix seems to continually build up while not ever properly taking off, making it an entire track of anticipation
3: 212 Mix The 212 Mix again adopts an ambient introductory section. This time though, the pulsing synth is a little more tuned, the percussion is a lot more prominent and the beat that kicks in is much more powerful. This is backed up by a bubbly bassline, very similar to the one found in E-Craig's mix of 'Somebody's Watching My Set'. There is a sudden blast of an 'old school' sounding synth hook and the track really begins to pound away nicely with the big beats, nice bassline and the strong pulsing synth - all the while, this fierceness has a layer of ambient synth playing over the top, which is an interesting thing to listen to. Everything breaks down to the lone bassline and beat, with some crowd cheers faintly playing in the background. From here, the track builds on top of the pulsing synth before another blast of the old school synth boosts the track back into its full on pounding glory! This continues for a minute or so, before easing off and fading down to a close.
The 212 Mix is a much more powerful mix than the first two; it touches on the more techy side of hard trance and does so with strength and conviction.
Conclusion:
'Hangin' On A String' is a strong track which comes in three slightly varied forms. The Rough Mix and the 212 mix are the harder sounding mixes, with the 212 mix being the strongest and more powerful sounding. The E-Craig Mix leans towards a more progressive yet trancey sound to make for a little extra variety. Here are three fine tracks, geared to enable you to suit how you feel, or give the crowd what they want to hear.
