DJ Dangermouse is in a legal battle with the Beatles over his Grey Album, where he samples the beatles and Jay-Z's.
American DJ Dangermouse has angered EMI because he has mixed the Beatles’ famous “White Album” with the lyrics from Jay-Z’s "Black Album" to make the “Grey Album”. The producer from Los Angeles (real name Brian Burton) now faces a lawsuit from the major, which owns the rights to the Beatles album.
Only 3,000 copies of DJ Dangermouse’s “Grey Album” were pressed. They have been sold on the Internet and in a few small record shops. The legal dispute has, of course, increased interest in the record considerably.
Last month the Web site Downhill Battle organised a global Internet protest and declared 24 February “Grey Tuesday”. Over 300 Web sites made the album available for download on the Internet on that day.
