The 18th installment on J00F recordings is upon us, and again brings us finnish talent, with a remix from Kuffdam & Plant
Original Mix
Finnish producer Aquasource begins the euphoric journey with the usual kickline, but accompanying it are a range of percussions, very complex for early on in a tune, but much welcomed. The clap joins us, and soon after the bassline also wants a piece of the party, simple but nicely done. A Background melodic riff comes in, building us onwards and upwards. Losing the kick for a few seconds helps us to introduce the melody, and when the kick returns it's highly effective. We're now close to the main section, and this begins with a short riff, with other aspects added before a drumroll takes us into the full melody, still building with elements added and taken away all the time, to move on but also keep it interesting. The second breakdown, whilst similar to the first one, seems to be a little more powerful, and helps prolong the track without any feeling of repetitiveness coming into it, which some tracks fail to do. Reducing the songs gradually, we have a melodic outro, perfect for DJs everywhere
Kuffdam & Plant Remix
Being promised a more progressive remix here, this definitely begins like so, with the emphasis on the percussions, slowly grooving, and the bassline almost melting into the track without being noticed too much. There are lots of atmospheric sounds used, but I can't help feel that they're perhaps a bit overused, or just too loud for the rest of the elements. The highlight of the remix comes nearly five minutes in, when the melody shimmers like metal with the sun beating down on it, again with the atmospheric riff slightly loud, but this soon leaves us, and the best bit of the track is upon us, gently and softly playing for us, and leading into a breakdown, which kicks off a bit, but probably not as much as the original mix.
Conclusion:
The track for me has lost marks, simply due to the excessive use of the loud melodic synth in the remix, which seems overused, and if you were able to concentrate on the beautifully soft melody more, it'd really be a great piece of music. The original is nice and will be played by the usual suspects for sure, as a typical track John himself would play. Released fully on 24th May 2004
