A review of the last legendary Time Warp festival in germany, ten years of fun and happiness are finally over... Are they really???
It’s over… The last Time Warp has been encountered in the night from the 27th to the 28th March, 2004. And how it was encountered… 15.000 funky Partypeople had found their way to Mannheim, from whole Europe, from Switzerland, even from Chicago, USA. They all had one thought in mind… to be a part of the Time Warp for the very last time…
It’s obviously that for a Time Warp, special technical equipment is needed, and therefore was provided 250.000 Watts of Sound and 400.000 Watts of Lightpower, as well as 60 kilometers of Cables, huge Laser- and Beamer- Effects, Plasmascreens and other light effects. There has been no cuts in Cost and Work to make this last Time Warp a historic techno event.
In setting new Highlights in Decoration and Atmosphere every year the Team has made a great effort in bringing a new information system to the Time Warp. At nearly every corner, each information center, food court or merchandizing desk, you were able to see screens which show you the information you needed: Timetables, Running Orders, live videos of the different DJ’s who perform at the moment. You had the best overview of what was going on in all different areas. There was no chance to miss your favourite DJ.
The Chill out Area, in the same starship design as the last years, but without that “starfield simulation” on all of the over 10 screens. This time video and computer animations in powerful colours helped you to relax and chill while enjoying calm music.
But best of all, of course, was the music of the numerous DJ’s and Live Acts, on which we concentraded most.
The absolute Highlight of this years last Time Warp was, in our opinion, Carl Cox whose set was so loaded with energy that even some Reggae- Fans, who came to the time warp accidently, were dancing like the Duracell- Bunny… On and on and on and on…. This man is deejaying for so many years now, he is so talented to spin 2 decks vinyl and two Pioneer CDJs at the same time – words aren’t enough t describe how that sounds… It was an arcustic Pleasure on the highest level - pure quality.
Mr. “Schranz” in person, Chris Liebing from Frankfurt am Main, Germany, enchanted with his hard beats and his distinctive smile not only the ladies. He was proving, according to the rapturous applause and the volume of the screams of the People, that he has the right of bearing the title “Best national DJ” which was given to him at the german dance awards, 2003.
Responsible for another firework of bassdrums was Monika Kruse, who set new Accents with her innovative sound. The “Wonder- Woman of Techno” set the audience on fire with strong beats and with her sympathy. While watching Monica deejaying, you always have the feeling that she wants to come down the DJ-Pult from time to time to dance with the masses and enjoy the music as all others who attended the time- Warp.
Grandmaster Sven Väth, wasn’t spinning his decks as the last DJ because of the birthday of his father that night. But his set was nevertheless as juicy and diversified as always. We really are sorry for the ones who missed Marathon- DJ Väth (who is opening an own club in Frankfurt am Main in the near future) at this years Time- Warp.
Someone who also put her soul and heart into his set, was Techno- Princess Leila Abu- Er- Rub. She has had her Time Warp Premiere 2003; this year she fascinated us more than ever with groovy sounds. A gorgeous performance with a really good mixture of great Tracks. As good as it gets! Thanx, Leila!
Number one of the House- Floor was in our Opinion “Karotte” with a really astonishing set… To put his music into styles is nearly impossible; at the time- Warp, as well as in the famous U60311 in Frankfurt, he has always done it his own way – and that’s the way we like his music.
Number two on the Housefloor has definitely been the “Back- to- Back” Performance of Richie Hawtin with Richardo Villalobos, these two fellows put pure magic to your ears.
Why, oh why, dear Time- Warp- Team, do you have to stop when it’s the most fun? How about endless fun and endless beats in Mannheim? For the next years we have to look out for other party locations in this part of germany, But some of us still believe there will be a wonder and Time Warp will still be taking place in Mannheim next year. Nevertheless it have been ten wonderful years of Time Warps in Mannheim and other cities, we have to thank you for bringing these ten years of fun and happiness!!!
And… to be honest… I am still angry about myself, cause I’ve missed 3 of the Time Warp Festivals… ;-)
