Fresh off of Blank & Jones' latest album, 'Monument', comes 'Mind Of The Wonderful'. How does this flagship single pave the way for the rest of the album...?
Mind Of The Wonderful is the first single to be released off of Blank Jones' 'Monument' album. Here we have vocal and non vocal flavours mixed by none other than Mark Norman, aka Mark De Jong and Norman Lenden. The vocals in the Vocal Mix are sung by Elles De Graaf from Perpetuous Dreamer.

1) Mind Of The Wonderful (Mark Norman Non Vocal Mix) The Non Vocal Mix begins with a fairly strong beat which is forcefully backed by a driving bassline, slightly reminiscent of E-Craig's kind of style. The percussion also has a strong presence early on in the track. A repetitive synth instrument is used in the background to build a feeling of progression and it is complemented by the onset of a high trance synth playing some long ghostly chords into a short break which allows it to develop into a basic version of the melody. The long sustained chords come back in for the main breakdown which is heavily synth oriented. The build up consists of the same basic melody which continues shortly after the track drops but soon transforms into the lovely sounding full melody, backed by those nice and long sustained chords. The final touch is a soft and delicate synth which plays around the melody now and again to make a truly lifting sound. From here, the track strips its layers and works its way to a reverberated close.
2) Mind Of The Wonderful (Mark Norman Vocal Mix) The Vocal Mix is essentially the same as the Non Vocal mix, but with some nice sounding vocals which are sung during the breakdowns. Elles De Graaf's voice sounds slightly strained at a few points but that aside, the vocals are a very nice touch and really fit in, adding a completeness which avoids anything cheese-like.
Conclusion:
'Mind Of The Wonderful' is a strong and worthy track. The Vocal Mix provides a slightly varied flavour for those who prefer vocals, or just who want to hear something a little extra. There are a lot of other remixes of this track on the way, but these two mixes by Mark Norman are the best ones I have heard so far.
