Recluse is a name probably familiar with anybody who has heard the awesome remix of the Saltlake track, Rendezvous. However on their own, Norwegian producers Espen Gulbrandsen & Thomas Nokling are capable of writing great music as this will show, including a remix from the hot dutch producer, Paul Moelands!
Original Mix
Gliding in is a deep bassline & some percussive work, nicely done to start things off, nothing over the top, but not too thin either. Added to this next is a driving bassline, really bringing the best out of my speakers. Add to this a melodic sequence, gently getting more intricate, and having a real sound of a track that would be featured on one of the amazing old ISOS compilations, tranquil warm strings blow over us like a warming sahara wind, if you shut your eyes you could be in paradise and not a cold room in England! The most amazing pluck lead is used, sounding almost like something that the great duo of Solar Stone would use, and this is definitely a compliment to these 2 young producers. This track is 7:40 long and to be honest, it could be 20 minutes for all you know, it just has the great ability to go on for what seems like a longer period, and you never find yourself thinking "I'm only 3 minutes in" as the natural progression of the track is nigh on perfect. Octagen Remix
The in-demand Paul Moelands adds an Octagen edge to the beautiful track here. Beginning with a loudish kick and vast array of percussive elements, you can feel yourself moving with the build of the track, waiting for the bassline and you don't have to wait for long before this is a reality. Moving onwards the melody begins to come in, and still in a soft fashion, even though the kick is more prominent than before, when this fades away we are left with a wonderful pad and the bassline really perks up with the melody, you can feel every element coming on, slightly more 'banging' than in the original edit, simply due to the kick, and for this reason you can probably find DJs like Paul Van Dyk playing this ahead of the original mix, but both of these are extremely strong. The track doesn't really peak at any one point, but maintains a high quality all the way through, which can be more important than a huge epic breakdown and lull that you can get in some tracks, but definitely not here!
Conclusion:
Recluse and Octagen are 2 of the names that will dominate the scene in the future, Ben Woods really knows how to sign quality pieces of music, and once again this does not disappoint in the slightest. Amazing track with a summer vibe, yet powerful enough to be played in any season!
