© Provided by DJ NatronThe talented Swiss co-producer DJ Natron of the project Flutlicht, with his various productions and remixes, speaks to i:Vibes during this very busy time of year for everyone...

The producer who brought us "Icarus", "Ahmea" and remixed the awesome "Exhale" by Servants of Light earlier in the year is at his peak right now, taking over Europe, especially in his home Switzerland.

Tell us a bit about yourself, where you come from and your influences in your music.

DJ Natron:
My real name is Daniel and I was born in Winterthur, near Zurich in Switzerland. Already in my high-school years, I was interested in music. I played the piano and was interested in all kinds of music.

In the middle of 1996, I discovered the Swiss techno and trance scene and spent quite some nights dancing at different rave-events. Soon, I wanted to get into the art of mixing music. So in August 1998, I bought the necessary equipment. Also, I got to know more and more people from the music-scene.
During that time, I started to deal with the production of trance. Together with the talented producer Reverb (Reverb Audiolab), I produced the track “Das Seigel” which came on its first Compilation CD’s . The German “Dizzly Music Productions” company was also very interested in this track and bought the rights of it. Now the foundation of the act “Flutlicht” (DJ Natron and Reverb) was just perfect.

How do you classify the music you are into?

DJ Natron:
For me, it’s definately progressive trance we produce and I always play in my sets. Bumping kicks, galloping bass lines and wonderful clear hook lines are my thing.

What differentiates your aliases, DJ Natron, Flutlicht, etc, and do each of them contain a specific style of production?

DJ Natron:
DJ Natron is my artist name when I DJ. I had this name, before I got to produce together with Reverb. Flutlicht is the name of our project. On parties I represent Flutlicht as DJ Natron. It is the same as Cosmic Gate, which is represented by Nick Chagall and DJ Bossi.

Whats your all time favourite track? and your current favorite(s)? and how about your favourite own production?

DJ Natron:
My all time favourite track is “Access” produced by Misjah vs. Tim. My current favourites are all productions of S.H.O.K.K. (Reverb & Giotto DJ) and my favourite own productions are “Mutterkorn” and “Icarus”, both Flutlicht-projects.

Which producers or DJs do you admire most?

DJ Natron:
Reverb is for me one of the best producers of the world. I also love productions of Marco V, Mauro Picotto and Paul Van Dyk. Hmm…DJ’s?..Mauro Picotto and Giotto DJ.

The ever-reoccuring question: what do you think of mp3s? and how has this developed the trance scene?

DJ Natron:
I never would support Napster, because of the rights of the tracks. Bad Influence of the CD music market in general. Otherwise it’s the best promotion you can get.

Tell us some news of upcoming productions, remixes, etc as a lot of people are looking forward to some future productions and remixes from you

DJ Natron:
Recently, we remixed Marc Dawn (Green Court)'s new track called Expander and I think it will come onto the market in January 2002. After that we start to produce the follow up of “Icarus (The Flight), it’s called “The Fall”. This track tells us the story about Icarus, the son of Daedalus (Greece Mythology), who wanted to flee from an Island with wings of wax….and so on. I hope you know the story about Icarus. =p

What do you do other than produce and DJ

DJ Natron:
I operate as a project-manager and programmer at an IT company, which develops Internet Shops.

You haven't really played any sets in the UK, USA, or Asia. Are there any plans to doing so in the future? As the hi-energy sound you play is still centered around Europe...

DJ Natron:
2 years ago I played in Brighton (UK) in a club is called “The Cuba Club” but I predominantly play in Central Europe….Germany, Switzerland, Austria…etc. I had still requests from Canada and Japan (Avex Records), a view weeks ago, but my agenda is full, so I shifted it on the year 2002.

Next year I go on tour in Europe as well, together with the resident DJ’s of Nautic Booking GmbH (Nautilus Events Switzerland), Giotto DJ and DJ Hypnotic, I’ll play at Love parades in Berlin, Wiena, Paris and at Union Move in Munich.

How does your DJing differ from your productions? If at all, and do you incorporate sounds you hear into the productions you do?

DJ Natron:
At present I play rather hard. I call this progressive Trance. There is not a large difference between what I play and what we produce. I play many productions of “Reverb Audiolab”.

Finally, how do you go about writing songs? Any inspirations? And where do you get the ideas from?

DJ Natron:
There aren't any particular inspirations, but the composer of the melodies is Reverb. He is the boss when we are producing our tracks. It is also Reverb’s studio. I participate with each production and we develop together all the Beats and the structure of the track.

Thank you for this interview and Happy new year to all of i:Vibes!!!!
