The 'Verso' E.P. by DJ Tab is the 27th Anjunabeats release. Both tracks on this one have already been receiving good support from the likes of Matt Hardwick, Above & Beyond and Armin Van Buuren...
Janne Mansnerus, aka DJ Tab, became a DJ way back in 1992 and now holds residencies at Illusions and Hallmark, two of Helsinki's biggest club nights. He also hosts a monthly radio show called 'Radio Extreme'.
In 1999, DJ Tab took to production, as well as DJing. He has collaborated with Finnish producer Miika Kuisma as AR52 with 'TimeGate' and 'Hibernation'. These were followed by 'Enigma' and 'Air Traffic' and they all shared high levels of success.
This 'Verso' E.P. on Anjunabeats is DJ Tab's first solo release. The vinyl holds two tracks - 'Verso' and 'Radiate'...

A: Verso 'Verso' is built on top of a standard sounding kick and a light sprinkling of percussion. As the track continues, the beat is supported by a long and sustained high pitched synth which sounds very much like female vocal "Aaahs". This goes on long enough to be able to introduce the rather active bassline and a warm up synth repeating a simple melody over and over again. Another - very nice and smooth sounding - synth is brought in alongside the first one, playing a few simple notes over and over. The track breaks down and the smooth synth notes become the melodic backing as the main melody is introduced, played by a prominent, edgy sounding synth. This track follows a very standard form - after this section, there is a rest section which omits the main melody, followed by a claming break which then drops into a final main section. The beauty of this track lies with the aurally pleasing sound the main section creates. There is nothing complicated about how the track is put together, it just sounds really nice. Its not uplifting as such, but it retains a good feeling that will make you smile.
B: Radiate 'Radiate' is more progressive in style, although it does contain a melodic element to it. You can sense the progressiveness as soon as the track starts - it is more slowly paced, the bassline has that ongoing feeling that progressive music creates and also there is the atmospheric rising and falling synth note in the background. There are all sorts of little sfx hits happening periodically in this track. The breakdown comes about just after a simple synth instrument has introduced a little melody. This melody grows into something stronger and more melodic and continues after the track drops back in. It plateaus right away, creating an ongoing, travelling feeling. Again, as in 'Verso', there is a rest section before a similar but shorter break than the first one before one final main section.
Conclusion:
The 'Verso' E.P. is a good effort by DJ Tab, worthy of a place on the Anjunabeats label. 'Verso' steals the show though, with its really pleasing sound and melody made uncomplicated by its simple structure. 'Radiate' is more progressive, yet has a melodic retention, making it good for the beginning of a set.
