The Classic is back! Now released on Above The Sky LTD. Does this new version of William Barber's track stand on it's own.....
Original Remix 137bpm
In a time when we seem to have a bucket load of remixes to choose from, as labels and artists fight to get more money.(You know it's all about the Benjamins baby!) It's not surprising this all time true classic gets a bootleg one sided revamp of 04 to coincide with the forthcoming release of the Tiesto remix. There is no name given here but the dark, hard trance style has all the tiny hallmarks of some of the best in the Hard Trance business, like Mat Silver & Tony Burt, Dumonde, SHOKK (R.I.P) Marco V and even Mauro Picotto! The problem with this track first off, is it will always have to face up to the all mighty, barn storming masterclass (I like it!) Ferry Corsten Remix. With that said and you knew I was going to, there is no doubt that this is a far better version than ATB's simple (some would say insulting) remix but it comes up short against the Ferry Corsten version. The first change to FC's version is the driving bass rather than the funky style one. The second and most noticeable are the loops, they are very tech in style, giving the track a serious Marco V slant. Flange effects are added, to very good effect, for what is a very long and largely uneventful build.(2 to 3 minutes in length) As with almost all Hard Trance, the break is a completely different entity to the build, making it sound Disjointed and this is no exception. The build simply fades out and the break fades in. William Barber's 'Platoon' masterpiece smoothly manoeuvres in, in a much darker, less uplifting sense to the FC version and moves at a much quicker pace for that. Unleashing the arpeggio lines before the strings have had time to settle. In that, there is a sense that there is a lack of quality and a real urgency to get the track moving. The breaks build structure is very similar to the Corsten's mix, as was noted on our forum but the loops really do give me a sense of Marco V, which is certainly not a bad thing at all, looking at his remixes of other classics (Cafe Del Marco, Loops n Tings) Leaving me to ponder.......could this be his remix???? The power arpeggios run for a minute or so and then the flange from the build takes back the mantle to lead us to the end of the track.
Conclusion:
For me this is the best remix of this track after Ferry Corsten's Remix. It flow nice, the mixture of Tech trance and uplifting anthem sequences make a sort of 'sweet and sour' (for lack of a better term! sorry!) effect, which surprisingly works. Excellent stuff if you haven't heard or have forgot THAT remix, good if you have or can't! Bring on Tiesto!
