Signum's latest effort is a vocal collaboration with Anita Kelsey - A State Of Trance's 18th release. How does this vocal affair stand to this labels ever demanding standards...?
Ronald Hagen and Pascal Minnaard's last outing on A State Of Trance was with the very popular 'Push Through'. This time around, the duo have teamed up with Anita Kelsey, who has a great voice, to create this vocal trancer. There is also a non vocal dub on the flip...
:: Signum Feat. Anita Kelsey - Come Around Again :: A State Of Trance :: ASOT018
A: Vocal Extended 'Come Around Again' has a noticeably tough and driving kick, which is helped along by a throaty, jittery bass in the background. Its quite an intriguing sound for the beginning of a vocal track such as this. The bass is toughened further, just as more percussion and some ambient backing synths begin playing a nice and light progression. The build up of sound continues, with the addition of periodic and extending vocal "Aaahs", heavily sampled and reverbed giving them a beautiful synthy quality. A lot of the body drops back to let the main body of the vocals begin. The middle section of the track heavily focuses on the vocals. The ambient backing synths continue in the background to retain the melody and help the vocals on their way. This leads into the ambient an vocal breakdown. Soon, the vocals give way to a tinglingly good guitar playing the main melody - and what a melody. It is another one of these quite simple melodies, yet its executed perfectly and it works together with the backing chords, the ambient synth sub-melody and of course, the vocals, to create one entire melodic wonder. The track drops back in with all of these elements and it just sounds and feels excellent. The vocals from this point loop until there is one final verse before the track reaches the point where it has to slowly start to wind down.
B: Dub Mix The Dub Mix is identical to the Vocal Extended, except that the vocals are completely omitted. So if you aren't a fan of vocal trance, or if you just don't agree with the vocals in this track, you can still enjoy the greatness of this track!
Conclusion:
Again another cracking effort from Signum for the A State of Trance label. Congratulations are also in order for Anita Kelsey, who has done a great job on the vocals for this track. I must confess, however, that until the breakdown and the final sections of 'Come Around Again', I was a little doubtful about it, but the combination of all the different melodic parts soon put paid to any doubt - this is a great track.
