© klubfever.com/klubfever_english/interviews/ianbHeat UK has been throwing parties for a few years and they have decided to add a second resident, Who is he? I'll give you a hint, he is done guest spots on TranceAirwaves but Which DJ have they chosen?

HEATUK ANNOUNCES NEW RESIDENT

After two-and-a-half years of throwing the biggest and best parties that clubland has seen in some of the world’s biggest and best venues, HeatUK is proud to announce the appointment of the club’s only second ever resident DJ - Ian Betts will be joining Marc French as our exclusive trance resident.

Ian is London’s most talked about and in demand trance DJ having already played for HeatUK at peak time main room slots at some of London’s biggest clubs, which include Turnmills, Pacha, The Cross and The Fridge.

This year will see his meteoric rise continue when he performs at the CREAM opening party at the legendary Amnesia in Ibiza alongside Tall Paul and the No 3 DJ in the world in last year’s DJ Magazine poll, Dutch sensation Armin Van Buuren. Cream are the most successful British-based promoter on the island, and their Thursday night at Amnesia is a must-do for any clubber, resulting in capacity crowds of 4000 at one of the best venues in the world.

2004 will also see Ian perform internationally at Heat events in Thailand, Holland and across Australasia as well as the club’s 3rd Birthday Celebration to be held at the Brixton Academy on September 25.

With a busy schedule of productions about to be released on various labels in the coming months and such high profile gigs as Cream at Amnesia, it’s obvious this DJ is destined for great things having come a long way since his first ever gig at a Mexican restaurant in Old Street.

ABOUT HEATUK

In July 2001, the first Heat UK event began one Saturday afternoon when friends converged on a backyard house party in Walthamstow, East London. Eight DJs created an energy never seen before at a Saturday afternoon event. The party moved from this backyard into the 'Rock' nightclub at Embankment and then after nine months the underground clubbing community came together for one unforgettable night at Camden Palace. The vibe from the original backyard party followed into that much larger venue; it was only a hint of bigger things to come.

Once 'Rock' could no longer accommodate the party, Turnmills was the obvious choice. The home of Trade & The Gallery is steeped in history and Heat UK is the only Hard Dance promotion since Trade to receive such a residency. The multi-room layout has helped develop other styles of music such as trance, house and funky beats, along with techno the variety is a signature of their events. It took 18-months for Heat UK to reach the mighty Brixton Academy. Heat NYE was the largest hard dance event anywhere in the country that night. It was voted the No. 1 New Year’s Eve event in London by Mixmag.

2003 was also the year for events out of London and the UK. April saw Heat UK debut in Japan at Energy Dai’s World Love Club Joule. June saw HeatUK conquer Ibiza throwing events at the world famous Space, Eden and Bora Bora all in the same week! November saw the Heat UK debut in Holland and December saw Heat UK in Leeds with Sundissential and a visit to The Gallery in Cape Town, South Africa.

2003 also saw the launch of the Heat Vinyl Record Label with the first release from resident Marc French, as well as the relaunch of the Saturday afternoon parties. After a one-year absence, the brand proved to be as strong as ever with three rooms playing three styles of dance music at The Cross. And to finish it all off there was the return of the massive New Year’s Eve at the Brixton Academy for 3500 people!

The start of 2004 saw HeatUK continue to give clubland a much needed dose of variety when they threw the first ever hard dance event at Pacha in London which resulted in a roadblock and rave reviews from all quarters, and the mammoth Evolution Rewind night at the Shepherds Bush Empire.

With more parties at Pacha, Clapham Grand, Brixton Academy and Shepherds Bush Empire planned, tours to Thailand, Holland, Australia and New Zealand, further releases on Heat Vinyl, an internet radio show, as well as the Cream affiliated week long trip to Ibiza, the year ahead for HeatUK looks to be the biggest yet!

ABOUT IAN BETTS

It all started for Ian when he was inspired by the DJs at London's legendary Friday night at Turnmills 'The Gallery' and in particular their residents Steve Lee and Tall Paul. Unable to afford decks because he was spending all his money on buying the tunes he loved, Ian learnt to mix on two hi-fi turntables and started to make mixtapes for his mates. Given plenty of encouragement in doing this he got his first gig at a small party which was held in the basement of a Mexican restaurant in Old Street and within a few short months he found himself playing regularly for promotions at some of the biggest venues in London. It was this sudden jump to prominence that not only spurred Ian on into buying a proper set of decks but also into setting himself up with a studio at home where he locked himself away to learn the secrets of production.

In a short space of time Ian has built and maintained a large and dedicated following (he recently came 2nd in the DJ of the Year poll in HarderFaster magazine). His sets reflect a rare versatility - Ian is capable of crafting a journey from the proggy influenced melodic pumping sounds at the start of the night through the uplifting euphoric anthems to the harder edged beats at the end of the set whilst seemlessly incorporating his own tracks and reworks, and yet he is not afraid to throw in the odd classic into the mix whilst still breaking the new material.

Ian has had the pleasure of playing peaktime mainroom sets in some of clubland’s biggest and best venues alongside some of the biggest DJs & producers such as and he has also played at prestigious venues abroad including trips to Israel, Slovenia and Ibiza as well as a tour of Australia which saw him play 6 gigs at venues across the country.

In addition to his gigging Ian has also been creating a name for himself as a genuine production talent. His remake of the progressive classic "Fixation" caused a huge stir in both in the UK and abroad, receiving major support from Graham Gold on Kiss FM and Armin Van Buuren on his A State Of Trance show and as part of his legenadry 9 hour set at Godskitchen. His latest track “Love Resurrection” is due out on Masif Records in May and is already being given "classic" status having sent 2,500 clubbers into raptures at Heat's New Years Eve party @ Brixton Academy, and his debut track on the new Heat Vinyl label “Inspiration” has been one of the most requested tracks ever played on Rapture TV. With further releases and remixes due this year, Ian's unique and recognisable production sound is set to make a real impact.

2004 is going to be another busy year for Ian – already he is one of the most talked about and most in demand trance DJ and producer on the London scene, and with high profile gigs such as the Cream opening Party @ Amnesia in Ibiza (alongside Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk), the new Euphoria CD launch party @ Turnmills (with Ferry Corsten), an exclusive headline 3 hour set at the Fridge in Brixton, guest mix slots on Galaxy FM, another tour of Australia and New Zealand planned for the start of 2005 and gigs in Slovenia, Chile, Thailand, Holland, Canada and the USA, not to mention a busy schedule of production releases, the coming year is going to see Ian’s profile raised to the next level and beyond both in the UK and abroad.

REVIEWS

“The man is a genius and already a living legend amongst the clubbers of London. His set was one of the best I have seen anyone play for a long time - it’s been a long time since I saw any DJ get a reaction like Ian did, every tune, when the break came, 1000 people threw their arms in the air, turned to face the DJ booth and jumped, he had the crowd in the palm of his hand and was loving every single second. Glorious, uplifting, energetic trance - Ian is rapidly making a name for himself as London’s best trance DJ. If you get a chance, go see him.” Review of Heat @ Pacha - Dom Farrell, Felix Magazine
