2004 has been an incredible year for breakbeat and it just would not be complete without an Elite Force single. Elite Force is back in the driver seat with his new single, What has he made this time?
Elite Force – Driving Me Crazy (TCR)
TCR is releasing more releases these days and now comes Elite Force’s new single. Elite Force is a common name to the breakbeat scene and he has been around a while. He is simply known as Shack to most of you (aka Simon Shackleton). He also records under the following aliases; pHrack R, Double Black, Killer Elite and Meat Katie meets Elite Force and his own Elite Force. The man is very busy but when he is not deejaying, producing or remixing, you will find working on his second love, which is gardening. He has been called by some in the media as the Tech-Funk Gardener and he has recently returned from deejaying in Australia. Whatever the case, the man is unique and gives you what you don’t expect.
Elite Force – Driving Me Crazy (RENN 3084)
A1.Original Mix B1.Rennie Pilgrem and Elite Force Mix
A1.Original Mix
The original mix starts with an incredibly funky drumline. We have more drums added shortly thereafter. Some sound effects roll in and out at times and we have real handclaps that enter, right after. These are not computer made sound effects here, they are real handclaps and it gives the song, a unique edge. The vocal comes in and this is unusual as well, here we have the claps behind the vocal and the vocal goes “Driving”, it is repeated, “Me” then is repeated and “Crazy” is repeated and they almost overlap at times and at the very end, we have “Baby”. The song reminds me of a 1970’s era funk song here. The song then goes to almost silence, when it breakdowns and the bass kicks in and the chorus kicks in and it goes in this mold till the very end.
B1.Rennie Pilgrem and Elite Force Mix
Seems Rennie Pilgrem has been a very busy man of late, seems most of the new TCR releases have a remix that he has done or co-done with someone. This is the best of the two here. We start here with harder bass, the funky drumline is very similar. The drums that are added in, right after are slower than the original mix in terms of tempo. We have more sound effect samples here, it seems to be a Rennie Pilgrem hallmark of late. Some heavier bass beats come in from the back and they slowly roll in here. The vocal, which is the same as the original mix. We have less claps here, the track breaksdown in much the same manner and continues to the end.
Conclusion:
Another solid release from TCR, sounds cliché but it is true. TCR seem to be releasing strong release after strong release. I love the 1970’s era feel with this song and the original mix is strong and the real hand claps make it so enjoyable. The Pilgrem and Elite Force Mix is solid as well, seems to be so Rennie Pilgrem, with all the samples and sound effects.
