Floyd makes a welcome return on to the RR imprint with a new trancer that looks set to make you dance your way into the coming summer months...
Floyd, aka Shane, aka The Mystery is really the one and only Ron van den Beuken. Here, he's continuing RR's recent influx of releases with something closer to the RR sound a lot of you will have become familiar with. The new track is called 'Any Given Day' and it comes in the form of two mixes, the Floyd Mix and the JvD mix. Expect to see this one surface in June.
:: Floyd - Any Given Day :: Liquid :: LQ044
1) Floyd Mix The Floyd Mix of 'Any Given Day' begins with gusto, demonstrating a punchy kick and a nice rolling bassline to really kick things into action instantly. The fast pickup continues with a very summery and quite classic sounding synth instrument playing some soothingly melodic chords in the background. These are instantly built on and complemented by a nice ambient synth which grows and grows into a fully reverbed and penetrating trance synth. The beat and bass are dropped as the synths carry on into a breakdown, which introduces the melody. It is played by a highly reverbed and high pitched string sounding instrument which is reminiscent of the lead found in Tiesto's well known 'Lethal Industry'. The melody itself is quite lethargic in nature but it carries with it a lot of feeling and really fills up the track, putting some more weight behind it. The different synths come in waves - there'll be a section of just the bass, beat and summery chords, then the trancey synth will take the centre stage and lead the track back to the re-introduction of the main melody. What you end up with is a nice blend of the 3 different lines, all working together, succeeding to create something greater than the sum of its already fine parts.
2) JvD Mix The JvD Mix begins more traditionally, with a lone beat which has a rounder sound than the kick found in the Floyd Mix. Some percussion is added in, followed by a snare roll into more rolling bass, but this time with a more defined edge as opposed to a continuous rumbling. Along with the bass comes a new synthline - this time its a trance lead with a deeper strength to it, playing some powerful sounding chord stabs. The breakdown is used again to introduce the melody as a solo part, but everything soon jumps back in, along with a soft and melodic sounding jittering chord progression in the background to round things off nicely. There is another breakdown in the middle of the track, where things build up again as they did in the first half, then after a final run at the uplifting main section, the track heads off to a close.
Conclusion:
'Any Given Day' is a superb track! Both mixes have an air of summer-like quality to them, along with a melodic and uplifting feel. The JvD mix has a stronger trance presence, whereas the Floyd Mix is the more relaxed of the two yet it still packs the right punch with the cutting lead. This one looks set to be big this summer for sure!
