It's been a bit quiet around ATB (André Tanneberger) lately, but he's back now with a new single called 'Marrakech'. The originals have been out for a while, and now there is a new remix package with two brand new remixes by Alex M.O.R.P.H.! Want to know what they're like? Read on to find out..
'Marrakech' is the first single release of the new ATB album 'No Silence'. The CD-single and 12-inch with the original mixes have been out since the beginning of May.
We all know Alex from his productions under the Arc In The Sky, Scirocco and M.O.R.P.H. aliases. He's had quite a few succesful releases with tracks like Scirocco - Scirocco and M.O.R.P.H. - Creatures, and some of his well-received remixes are Woody van Eyden - Unfinished Symphony (Arc In The Sky Remix) and Moonrush - Risky Business (Arc In The Sky vs. Atlantis Remix). Last one will be released on Fenology in June and has already been played by Tiësto and Johan Gielen.
A-side: Alex M.O.R.P.H.'s Synthetic Empire Remix Directly at the beginning of the track, it's hearable that mr. M.O.R.P.H. has tried to differ from his 'usual' style a bit, and bring us a more progressive and laidback production. Smooth muted kicks, a bit of accompanying percussion and a first taste of the original 'Marrakech' vocals bring us towards the introduction of a sharp, hardish bassdrum. A rolling bassline is added along with it, building up with a bunch of effects and other elements. A while later, a bit of the effects fade away, making place for the first main vocal part in the track. The vocals go on for a while, until flowing into a mini-break which consists of some soft stringy synths, tiny hi-hats and a chorus-part of the vox. After this, the beat and bassline kick in again, this time accompanied by a repeating synthline on top of them, creating a bit of a faster atmosphere. A small break part enters again, introducing us to a mellow stringspart which repeats itself during the on-going build-up. More and more percussion gets added which makes the track sound faster and faster. We even get treated with a guitary sample, playing a repeating but nice melody on top of everything. Another mini-break appears (yeah, this track is full with them). The vocals have some effects over them now, and using a quick drum roll we get to a rather climatic part with a new on-going melody playing alongside the rest of the track. When all this is over it is time for the guitar and the vocals once again, slowly taking us into the one and a half minute build-off.
B-side: Alex M.O.R.P.H.'s Synthetic Empire Dub This Dub version is more or less the same as the Remix on side A. The only differences are the length (side A takes approximately 9 minutes while this one only lasts for 7,5 minute) and the use of the guitar sound. I don't really know why this mix was put on the flip, it doesn't really add anything. It might have been more useful to have put another remix here perhaps.
Conclusion:
All in all a nice set of remixes. Alex surely did his best to change his style a bit, and it worked out in a rather good way. If you didn't like the original mixes because of their lack of speed or energy, this just might be the mix that wíll entertain you!
