Essential tunes this month You can listen to all these tunes on demand in the mix at www.mattdarey.com via mp3 streaming. Latest mix ready for download from the DJ mix vault non 1st June.
Matt Darey Pres Mash Up - Liberation, Fly like an Angel 2004(Mash Up Tunes) One of the original vocal trance anthems of 1999 returns by popular demand with remixes from Matt Darey, Michael Woods (aka Solex & Warrior) and a couple more big name remixes in the pipeline. Darey delivers a more subtle mix of acoustic guitars and deeper trance beats at a slower pace than the original but still with all the anthem qualities of the original. Woods takes it on more of a full on journey into the chunky house side of trance. A fresh sounding remake of an old trance classic.
Tiesto - Barbers Adagio for Strings (Nebula) Orig mix There's been quite a few versions of Barbers Adagio for strings over the last five years. Ferry Corsten's version hit the U.K top 10 with William Orbit a few years back and Perfecto released "Just another day", a vocal version of the tune. Tiesto's version started life as an intro piece for his sets but has now become a major tune off his new album. Adagio for strings is one of the most moving piece's of music written. The Tiesto mix is very hard edged with two massive breaks into lush strings. The main theme transforms in to a hard synth and drives the track on as it builds continuously towards the end. It a sure thing and a favourite on the harder floors aswell.
Silencer - Drown in Me This year has seen a lot of fusion in dance music nly takes one listen and your hooked. May sound a bit too much like a real band for most Trancer's but I love it and reckon its the way to go with what sounds like a hybrid of a U2 track with a bit of Trance and house. A deeper kind of vibe with housey drums, Huge strings, Piano's, Guitar riff's and a classic rocky female vocal that make it stand out from the rest. Its the kind of track that could cross over into the charts so lets see what happens.
Adam White vs Hemstock & Jennings - Reverence (Mondo) DT8 mix An idea conceived by up and coming trance DJ Adam White taking the theme music from the Gladiator movie and transalated to the studio by Hemstock and Jennings who colaborated with Paul Van Dyk on "Nothing but you" last year. The original version is remixed into a mainstream trance monster by the very talented Mr Tate. All the usual elements you'd expect from Tate aka Jurgen Vires with big strings, driving synths and arpeggio's and chuck in a bit of a reverent feel with a church pipe organ. By the time you read this you'll probably have had your hands in the air to this one if you¹ve been clubbing recently.
Thrillseekers - New Life (CDR) Lange Mix Classic trance is back with an awesome mix from Lange who brought us the massive hit Braveheart some five years ago. With this mix Lange does what he knows best and delivers a crisp production with a massive synth hook and a mysterious breakdown that wouldn¹t be out of place as a movie sound track. The track builds elegantly and is a powerful take on the original. I've road tested it and its a winner everytime.
Ferry Corsten - Its Time (Tsunami) Ferry Club mix It's time follows up the massive Body rock from one of Trance's most innovative producers. The track originally appeared on his album with a very electro feel and maybe not too suited to the dancefloor but the new mix has all the balls of his last single. The track starts with the now trademark electro break dance feel and the robotic "Its Time" hook, then in crashes a massive trance power chord riff. A big floor filler, maybe not as much as body rock but that would be almost impossible to beat.
Nicholson - Yin (Fundamental) Orig mix Yet another film soundtrack hits the trancefloors. This time its the theme from the movie Samurai where Tom Cruise and his warrior mates make there last stand. The track kicks off with the string piece from the movie and then kicks in with hard beats an synth stabs in a very Tiesto "Luv's on Fire" style. In come more driving synths which crescendo towards the breakdown where the main theme is repeated and breaks into a something reminiscent of Chicaine's "Offshore". Its a classic tune and massive on the dancefloor in a similar way to Adagio for strings.
Li Kwan - Point Zero (Mash Up Tunes/Liquid Assett) new Agnelli & Nelson remix One of the early trance classics gets a lease of new life after 10 years away from our dancefloors with new mixes from the like¹s of Lost Tribe, Leama & Moore, Agnelli and Nelson and Matt Darey amongst many others. The Lost Tribe interpretation is the Favorite for the hard crew with its driving bassline and break beats leading into that unforgettable Goah trance vocal from back in the day. Its time for a bit of the old Euphoric hands in the air before it charges back into the new decade of pumping trance.
Lost Tribe - Possessed(Mash Up Tunes) This is the follow up to Last Summers anthem Gamemaster which was doing the rounds in the clubs for the third time in the last eight years. The new tune brings you pumping basslines and electro riffs with the big breakdowns. Harder edged melodic trance with a twist of Kraftwerk makes this definitely one to energize those dancefloors into the summer.
ATN - Miss a Day (F&W) This is one of those tracks that overflows with emotion in the melody. A piece of classical trance with massive arpegio riffs, running basslines to keep the energy flowing and lush female vocals in a similar vein to PVD's Nothing but you. Soul stirring stuff and one to get you jumping up an down at the same time.
