The month of June is upon us and here's the ten tunes that I think will be doing the damage on the dancefloor.
01. Jooris Voorn - Lost Memories [sino 010] This song has massive crossover potential and will no doubt be played by most dj's. With a huge piano melody in the breakdown, it definately carries a summer vibe with it.
02. Various Artists - Volume 3 [Ghostwriter 03] 3 of 4 tune on this ep are admitedly pretty dull, but 'The koncav vs Monkilla - Moon' is the one that stands out. Great breakdown that would fit right in at the peak of most techno sets!
03. Antony rother - Popkiller [Datapunk04] Much awaited album by this fantastic electo-techno producer. His trademark vocals are evident throughout the album, but don't let this put you off. It is a seriously good album.
04. Misc - Rocket Skating ep [sender034] What can I say about flow control. This tune has been around since the start of the year, but still manages to get me excited. Remains in my top 10 and will probably do so throughout 2004, a priceless record for me.
05. Mark williams - The styles ep [analog_movement_creations021] This is a great example of some quality tribal techno. 4 Tracks that will always get a crowd going, especially b2 'turkish delight'.
06. Audibelle - Lifes a pitch [bassethound007] Buy this for the southsoniks remix. The original is a good tune and would serve a purpose played in the first hour a set, but the southsoniks remix is my favourite. With certain elements of trance incorporated it will appeal to a wider audience than just techno listeners.
07. Len Faki - Figure 2.1 [figure002] Excellent follow up to figure 1.1. Three, chunky, funky techno tracks that are a trademark of Len Faki productions.
08. Carl Max - Concept of my life [compound026] Not a particullarly new release, but the B side of this record contains two of the better hard techno releases I have heard in the last few months. he doesn't try to go over the top like a lot of others are doing at the moment, but instead creates lovely bassy techno tunes that flow nicely and don't leave you reaching for the earplugs a' la' dj amok.
09. Da Fresh - Dope me remixes [Zebra] Wether this will be out in time to feature in June remains to be seen, but with a great remix from redhead and Tomaz and a driving techno mix from Valentino Kanzyani on the B-side, this one looks like it could be huge.
10. Paul Kalkbrenner - Self [Bpitch control083lp] I've included this one purely because of the fact that it is summer. Since 77 has to be one of the finest songs i've ever heard for chilling out to. It certainly wouldn't serve much of a purpose within a club enviroment, but it is just perfect alternative techno.
