Greg Benz and his partner Marco Di Carlo release "Wonder", What makes this different from all the other Benz & MD tracks? Does it live up to the Benz & MD standard?

Benz + MD – Wonder (Original/Grayarea’s America’s Hat Remix) (Hope051)

Hope Recordings is releasing more and more records of late. This time, they release Canadian producers Greg Benz and Marco Di Carlo (Benz and MD)’s single called Wonder. Greg Benz is known to some of you as the London, Ontario based progressive deejay. If you don’t know him, you will have time to get to know him because he will be writing a dj diary for I:Vibes.nu starting in June. Benz and MD have always put out quality tracks and this track is no different, no wonder Hope snapped this up quickly. Joining Benz and MD on this release, is Chicago based Trio of Grayarea, who have come off on the heels of their single “Gravity”. They have been releasing a bunch of remixes of late for Hope Recordings and you know them from "Yewminyst" and remixes like "Emerald", and "I'm still awake". If you don’t, they will be also writing a DJ Diary in June for us.

Benz + MD – Wonder (Original/Grayarea’s America’s Hat Remix) (Hope051)

Original Mix

We start with a tapping beat and this pure swirling melody that drives this track. This is complex progressive house but one does not wish to dwell on what the genre a song is. This song is epic as a Sander Kleinenberg single. An infectious groove enters at times in the song and this picks you up and slaps you silly. This track relies on the lush melody and the infectious groove here. This is driving progressive house at it’s best, it is a pure sonic odyssey. Benz & MD’s strength in this song is that they go for more simplicity then they build upon it but they allow the track’s strengths to be used to their full capacity. They don’t try to add a whole bunch of things that don’t go with the song, they just made a song that works. This will be big in the summer of 2004, look for more progressive deejays to be hammering this.

Grayarea’s America’s Hat Remix

Grayarea decide to head for something slighty different, they use parts of the main melody but only some, then they add their own breaks take on it. This is the more dancefloor oriented of the two mixes. This makes use of a more grinding bassline here, whereas the original relies on the melody. This is going to make progressive lovers, cream their pants in delight and it is going to make breaks fans, very happy as well. Grayarea seem to be just putting out monsters tracks of late and this is no different, this will be played a lot come summer of 2004.

Conclusion:
Hope does it again with releasing a quality track with a storming remix on the B Side. No wonder they snapped up this gem so quickly, the track just speaks for itself. Greg Benz and Marco Di Carlo will ones to watch for in the future, if they keep making songs like this. Grayarea turn out a stormer of a remix and they will be ones to watch for as well, seems Hope picked the best newcomers for this release
